Remember when I talked about being sooo excited to go see Evanescence and several other bands in Dallas recently? (here and here)

I finally blogged my experience... and it's an interesting one to say the least. I also posted quite a few pictures. I didn't want to do the whole story here, ya'll might think I'm a nutcase but it was an experience to say the least.

To sum it up if you don't want to read the whole story... I got pulled out of the concert by security and harassed by a security supervisor for having a "professional looking camera". I don't know really why I was singled out, there were lots of cameras everywhere, and mine wasn't the only DSLR. I'd even called ahead to be sure we could bring it and checked at the entry gate. We'd done everything right. We were bullied and ultimately left early. It was disastrous. The pictures I did get are pretty cool though. I also posted one video.

I my goodness, Kat. I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience. I would definitely send a letter of complaint to the venue management explaining what happened and the way you were treated. There is no excuse for such behavior, and they definitely need to have a clearer across the board policy in place specifying exactly what equipment is permitted, and make sure that all of the staff understand it, so that you don't get conflicting information in the first place. Just ridiculous.

Your pictures are fabulous though. :)

This exactly!

That's awful! I would send a complaint letter too! THere's no reason for that! Off to check out your blog post...

That's insane! You can record a whole concert on your cellphone these days. I have seen people do that! They shouldn't get upset over a camera.

The pictures you got were pretty amazing though. I hope you at least got to enjoy some of the show.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures... I did think about the issue later and I'm like... yeah... good... you picked me out as a pro... I'm wanting to do photography full time so... lol... but I know they were really just picking and choosing who to harass. I saw a couple of other people who posted serious complaints about security and one also said they were bullied.

I do think we are in a day and age where a DSLR does not mean "pro" anymore... I could have bought a point and shoot with 16 megapixels, 10x optical zoom and HD video with sound for about 200 bucks at Sams Club... I think my pictures would have come out similar. I wish I could test the theory to prove my point.

My husband has been calling the venue but no one responds. So I think I'll send a letter and file a better business bureau complaint. I really would like at least my money back, but an apology and the big guy getting fired would be awesome... since he had the nerve to shove my husband and I thought about writing a letter to the band's reps. A friend of mine's older brother is in a band with Rocky Gray, the former drummer in Evanescence so I might be able to get the best info to get my letter through.

I'm just not really a rock concert type of person so to pick me out of THAT crowd and pull me out as if I am trouble, that's just insane. People two rows behind us were passing around pot... I mean, really, my camera compared to illegal drugs... we even said that... and they totally didn't care... huge big city lesson for us.
