Computer woes & joys

@bellbird Justine - I know what you mean. Space is an issue for me upstairs where I have a computer on a small desk in the corner of my LR, that is where I will scrap most times in the evening. So if I were to have 2 monitors, it would be in my office downstairs where I could edit and scrap on 2 but that would only be a bit during the day and sometimes on the weekend. So that is something to think about too before I decide that do that, is whether it would bother me to have that on one computer but not both. I'll have to think that over.

Right now I am in computer satisfaction land. Right now. Last month my hand me down 15" MacBookPro was gasping and my standard hand me down iPad was getting too slow to accept updates of my apps. Both the same week. I ended up with an iPad Pro to replace both of them. I've come to the conclusion I don't want to scrap while I travel but if I change my mind, I'll have to revisit the MacBook market.

@jk703 I know what you mean about that 17" MBP. I had dh's old one and while it was heavy it was a beauty and the screen was just perfect. However after looking at my 27" iMac and the clarity of the monitor, using the 17" before it died was like having cataracts again! These eyes are too old for a 13" 'puter.

@Tree City "So, I guess you could say I want a "family desktop," cuz I want it out in the open in our family room. I'm a big believer in holding DD's hand as she learns to cross the "information superhighway." My son swore for years that he would not get a Mac - he is Microsoft certified etc. - but then when they needed a family computer for three children he got an iMac!! When it was sitting in the kitchen, he and my dil could see everything the chicks were doing esp the pre-teen boy at the time! That iMac got a LOT of use and afterwards, there was never another PC in the house. Mac Airs all around. And it's amazing but that old iMac still can plug along and my son uses it strictly for genealogy.

@cookingmylife My DH has a MacBook Pro. It's old. (like, maybe 11 or 12 years? Gosh, I gotta think how long it's been since he graduated lol!) It is DEFINITELY not as peppy as it once was lol, but it sounds like your son's iMac: still ticking. Anyway, I bet when we do buy a desktop he'll want an iMac. I guess we'll have to see how big his bonus is next year. I want a new sofa AND carpet in the family room, so who'll win: me, or DH?:banana

I want the desktop in a public space for the same reason as your son did. I think that my parents and my friends' parents, who didn't grow up with computers, gave us too much free rein with computers. And now there is that social media issue. Eek! (Wow, I'm turning into a Debbie Downer, so I'll stop talking now!)
