This is one of the things I am getting the hubby this year. I am looking for one that also grinds the beans. He is a big coffee person so I would like a really nice one. We have had 2 Keurigs and neither one of them lasted so I am looking for something other than the single brew ones like that.

I just read about a french press and I think I am going to go this route. Anyone have experience with one of those?

If he's a coffee snob I would go with a french press over most auto drip makers, apparently most of them just don't get the water to the right temp fast enough to brew the best cup of coffee (there is one that is on my hubby's wish list but it's $300..so not happening anytime soon..or possibly ever...lol). Having said that my DH is a huge coffee snob (roasts his own beans etc). The biggest issue with the french press is that they can be kind of a pain to clean (at least compared to other coffee pots), but it makes such a good cup of coffee! It's totally my favorite way to make coffee. DH says that the Aeropress gives a similar taste as french press with less oil (cholesterol) and it's easier to clean, I've never used one though, so just have to go by what he knows.

A French press or a Moka pot are great. They're not as easy as push a button on a Keurig, but they're great. And I'm sure you know this, but high quality coffee beans makes a big difference when using something like a French press.

French press makes great coffee. But like Melissa mentioned -- the beans you start with make a huge difference. We buy unground beans and grind just before we use them. We also have a good quality coffee grinder.

My favourite coffee machine was a Delonghi coffee and espresso machine, with a milk froth-er build it. It was a pain to clean, but my, what a wonderful way to start a Saturday morning with a fresh cup of cappuccino!

Get a burr grinder and a french press! We got both when we got married and man, I am ruined to all other coffee.

we were looking into this, but went with the starbucks espresso machine. it does milk and coffee. it's awesome!

And if he is a coffee snob you should get him these super duper awesome glass blown coffee cups! They have air inside so you never burn yourself when holding the cup, even if the coffee is STEAMING HOT!

They are flippin' AWESOME!!!!! I want a set, I drool over my friend's set every time I go to his house! (they are very fragile since they are blown glass).

Those are awesome!

Amanda,
they are the dream cup for any coffee or hot tea lover! They come in different sizes from expresso to what I call the big Kohuna cup!

Are you looking for an espresso machine? Or one that makes "regular" (American/drip-style) coffee?

I have had very good luck with Breville. They aren't cheap, but in our experience they last and work great. I have a Breville espresso/cappucino machine that I got as a wedding gift 6+ years ago and I LOVE it, still works great with everyday use! My parents loved mine so much, they got one of their own -- except they got a slightly expanded model that has the built-in grinder. It is AWESOME, and I am drooling over it... Their model (or a similar one) is on sale (40% off) at Williams Sonoma right now.
