I’m going to clean a house with my sister today. She is a good deep cleaner and I am good at doing whatever she tells me to do so I’m hoping we get a lot done in a short amount of time.

What type of cleaner are you? Do you have a cleaning schedule or are you like me and only clean when the mess gets unbearable? Maybe this thread will give me the motivation to finally stick to a cleaning schedule…

Is this something y'all do together as a business?

What type of cleaner are you? I used to keep an immaculately clean house and it was organized. I can't clean some things like I used to because of my chronic back pain, so those things just have to wait until Jay or Daniel can help.

Do you have a cleaning schedule or are you like me and only clean when the mess gets unbearable? I don't have a cleaning schedule. The only thing I'm consistent about is my evening tidy. That means the kitchen is cleaned and the dishwasher is run, all the pillows in the living room and den are fluffed and put to rights, and all the blankets in the living room and den are folded and put away. As far as paperwork or mail, that's usually handled as soon as it comes into the house. I will admit that my paperwork/mail is a hot mess right now. After taking care of my mom for 2 months, I just kept shoving stuff into a box. Now I'll have to pay the price to get it all organized again. Booooo LOL

I'm a terrible cleaner ... you should see the dust on my shelves! That said, I do keep my kitchen tidied up, I do our laundry weekly, including putting it all away, and I vacuum weekly.

I really need to scrub my bathroom this coming weekend. I absolutely HATE cleaning bathrooms and it drives me nuts that it doesn't stay clean more than 15 minutes after I'm done. Gah!!!

I keep the kitchen and bathroom counters clean, wiping them down every day. Any clutter is in the office since that is where I spend 95% of my day hours. I have laminate floors and no carpet so when I notice dust bunnies, I will get the dust mop out and take care of them. I have a small sweeper that I can pull out if needed. If there is a spill, I will mop that portion of the floor with my O'Cedar spray and mop unit. The iRobot is run the last Sunday of the month... aka the day before the housecleaner comes!

I have the same housecleaner that Mom had when she couldn't clean anymore. Sharon dusts every room except my office, uses the dust mop for under furniture the robot can't get to and does a good mopping of all the floors. I can't do those because of my back issues. She also cleans the shower and toilet. I will add that I wipe down the shower every time I use it. Wipe down the walls and use a squeegee on the glass. She has told me that really helps.

I am responsible for cleaning my office because of how much stuff is in there including the computer equipment. Back in the beginning Mom and I just didn't feel comfortable having someone move stuff around. Sharon never minded not doing it and we've kept it the same. I do dust in this room but it takes me hours to do one room because of my allergies to house dust. So it doesn't get done as often as it should.

I used to be a clean house freak! My kids called me "psycho cleaner" LOL Now, I'm not so bad, but I can't stand clutter. I feel like if I keep my house "clutter free" and my bathrooms and kitchen are always clean so the rest can slide a little.

We have a house cleaner that comes every other week and she really deep cleans. I love that she cleans all the way around the ceilings with her long duster and she cleans all the corners, walls, fans, light fixtures, the top of the kitchen cabinets and the "chachkas " that I have sitting up there - things that I probably wouldn't do on a regular basis. She cleans all of our blinds, too. The inside of the microwave gets cleaned and she cleans the inside of the refrigerator if it needs it.

As for a schedule, we really don't have one - just some daily upkeep. We don't have any carpet, just a couple of area rugs, so we keep the dust bunnies off the wood floors. We really downsized with our last move - 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms. We've always lived in big houses and they're much harder to keep up with.

What type of cleaner are you? I would say I'm more of a tidy-upper (as in everything has a place, so it's easier to keep things clean.) I do try to deep clean certain rooms at least every season (Bathroom showers/tile gets a deep scrub & fixtures get calcium deposits removed every few months and I wash walls & baseboards every few months as well.)

Do you have a cleaning schedule or are you like me and only clean when the mess gets unbearable? I am lucky enough to have a housekeeper that comes every 2 weeks to mop & do all our floors & our bathrooms. In between, I try to at least sweep everyday, vacuum at least 1x/week and make the kids do some chores too- windows, their bathroom, garbage, etc.

So nice of you to both help out your sister and someone else! i envy those of you that can get away with doing laundry and things weekly, so the kids uniforms are clean and i don't need to buy them 5 of everything, i do washing of some sort, hang and put away clothes 6 days a week, (includes other stuff like towels and bedding that are more weekly - it takes less yelling to do it myself, the kids put things away by throwing them on a bean bag or the end of bed only to end up on the floor) and because free range indoor birds make a mess (the price i pay) is basically cleaning daily. I can't keep up with dust and this year, mould - living in drought for most of my life, i haven't had to deal with that in the past and it's just been crazy.

i did ask for a robotic vaccuum for mothers day and was told to go research it and buy one myself - i already had and had seen a specific one for like $150-200 off before mother's day as part of a sale and like sent links so it could be ordered etc but nope and of course afterwards it was full price again and i couldn't justify paying the extra for it so i waited a few months til it was about $100 off, figuring the extra i spent that was their fault that they didn't just get it while it was on sale -sadly it hasn't been much of a time saver - it more creates like a blowing effect as it moves (we have tiled and laminate plank flooring) and it just blows the feathers around like tumble weeds or goes back to the room it started in and recleans that after it leaves the initial room -i guess buying one that's been reviewed as good at getting pet hair off carpet is not what i needed so my research wasn't exactly useful - i have used the broom to push feathers and crud toward it but that's not exactly efficient, nor is using the app like a remote control to direct it to the places the mess is because it's like one press and it rolls a few inches then you have to hit the arrows again and meh, i should have just bought a stick vac!

I pick up throughout the week, but 99% of the time I clean on Saturday morning (dust, vacuum, mop, bathrooms, etc). I don't do clutter, so it drives me nuts when things are laying around. I usually do a pick up run through in the evening.

My sister cleans for business; I just help her when she’s extra busy or the job will be rough physically (like today’s oven cleaning).

I like your “evening tidy” routine and need to implement something similar.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only terrible cleaner. ;) It sounds like you do plenty though! I hate scrubbing bathrooms too. Good luck!

I’m glad you have Sharon to help you with the cleaning. I recently started wiping down my shower every day and I agree that it helps keep it cleaner. I should start wiping my bathroom counters daily…

I love your nickname from your kids Cheryl haha could be worse! ;) Downsizing is always nice for less cleaning; I look forward to downsizing some day.

Your deep clean sounds nice for once a season; mine is probably once a year. :-/ Yay for a housekeeper!

I’m with you Justine! I feel like I do laundry All. Day. Every. Day.
Thanks for the heads up that robotic vacuums aren’t great for cleaning up after birds. We’ve thought about getting one.

I should try the Saturday morning clean up. A clean house to start the weekend sounds very nice!

I wish I had a housekeeper! But, alas, I do not. I do have Reginald - he's a robot vacuum. (Eufy brand). He works pretty well at keeping the pet hair (and human hair!) under control. I don't know how he'd do with feathers, since he sits pretty low to the ground @bellbird . He does like to munch cords if they are left out and available! Anyway, he runs Mon-Sat. And usually once every other week I do a good vacuum too. In the summer, when everyone was home and friends came over, we didn't run Reg on Wed, instead doing a real vacuum.

Anyway. I have an app I use that I like to ignore some days, called Motivated Mom. It has daily chores, and reminds me to do certain things once a month or quarter or year. When I use it, my house stays 90% clean daily. But I'm really good at being lazy and ignoring it. So, my house often sits at 60% clean. I hate a dirty kitchen, so that is ALWAYS clean. Microwave and all. Dust? I can take it or leave it, so often - I leave it.

Laundry I do every Friday. I'll do emergencies during the week, but laundry day is Friday, so everyone has enough to last a week. And it's all washed, dried, folded, and put away. It's a holdover from my days using a laundromat.

@bestcee i have a eufy, i think i saw a page you did about yours - we call him Robbo (as in short for someone with the last name Robertson (or Robotson), and as in 'you missed half the floor again, Robbo') - i can't remember this code number - maybe 25C? the app doesn't seem to have that info in an obvious to find spot and i dont see it written on him in the charging doc thing

Reginald sounds like a good helper.

Looking into the Motivated Mom app (I would probably ignore it too often).

Good job keeping laundry to one day!
