I bought tons of stuff. We generally do what is the norm here in the UK : a roast (Turkey) with all the trimmings.
We usually buy lots of finger foods, sweets and treats as here is almost a week in which the town closes down....
Because in Brazil & Argentina is summer, we were used to a very different way, and most our Christmases were there....

Have you got any recipe you go for every year?
or something interesting to make with left overs?
I would welcome any tips :)

we do pans of Lasagna, meatballs sandwiches, big huge salads and brownies and ice cream...and we graze on food all night with a housefull of friends playing charades and such...love the joy of the day, carried late into the night!

On Christmas Eve at noon, we go to my grandma's and she makes her famous crab and shrimp gumbo and fried cornbread. Lots of other sides like cole slaw, and broccoli casserole, and fresh salad. We are in Florida, after all, so it's our Florida dinner. LOL

On Christmas Eve evening, we go to my dad's and we've had everything from sub sandwiches to pork loin to heavy appetizers.

On Christmas morning, we have breakfast at our house. We have monkey bread (which is like biscuit covered with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar), sausage casserole, bacon, cheese grits, fresh fruit or a fruit salad, etc.

For Christmas dinner, we go to Jay's mom's and we have ham, mashed potatoes, rolls and green beans.

In between all of that, Jay's mom and my mom both have candy and cookie making sessions, so we have fudge, coconut oatmeal cookies, sugar cookies, cracker jack, Captain's Candy, buckeye balls, peppermint bark, etc.

We are ALWAYS eating. Not that this is different at this time of year than any other. I've just decided my family and Jay's family are just eaters and feeders . . . if you're not eating, they make sure you are eating . . . and I've found myself becoming one, too!

Ya'll are making me hungry!

We spend Christmas Eve with our best friends. This year we decided to do a nacho bar. I'll make my homemade guacamole and salsa. We usually fry up our own chips, too.

We have Christmas breakfast and linner (late lunch/early dinner) at my Mom's. For breakfast I usually make my tater tot casserole and these sausage biscuit thingies. I'm thinking of trying this out this year. Who doesn't like biscuits and gravy? My mom will usually fry up some potatoes and bacon. My brother usually makes pancakes.

For linner we have a complete Christmas feast - turkey and ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing (bleh...I don't eat that stuff), dinner rolls. I'm sure I'm missing something.

We usually will have a few pies for dessert. I always make peppermint bark and pretzel/peanut clusters. My godmother usually makes fudge of some kind.

As crazy as it sounds, we always do go to meals all week. I livw having a ine poot or crock pot fix and done thing. It also help with everyone coming and going to eat when they can and then I will make a fresh side at dinner during the week.
Chili with fixings and then make cornbread muffins that evening.

Chicken and dumplings, then I will make a salad that evening.

My personal fav os the "sides day". I just make up all our favorite sides then we nibble, haha

Stuff like that

When I'm not on my phone, I will link up some yummy Danish Christmas food! I loooooove the food here for the holidays! :D

ohhhh I'm getting some great ideas from you guys!!! (and yes getting hungry already!!!!!!)

we always make some food together with Sarita, she takes pride on making the roast on her own most of the time.... we haven't been in the best of terms lately but we have to put up the tree so that will ease things ...and to make it easier to ease... LOL... I just bought stuff to make Brigadeiros, which are sweets, like truffles but not quiet, very traditional in Brazil.....
here are some images of the brigadeiros

be back later to take note of some of these yummy foods of yours to incorporate on our Christmas week!!!!!

normally i make lots of yummie finger food... but there is always 1 day we go gourmetting with the family. with lots of tiny meat and other stuff.

I still need to think about what kind of finger foot i will make this time...

We entertain the extended family on Christmas Eve. It is pot luck and everyone brings whatever they'd like. The only real staple is the honey baked ham we always provide and enough sweets to feed the whole block for weeks. This family loves their sweets. On Christmas Day, we have a big leisurely breakfast of french toast made with challah bread and thick sliced bacon. The rest of the day, we graze on leftovers from our Christmas Eve celebration.

We do a ham with scalloped potatoes then veggie platter and cookies. All my girls are coming over on the 17th for a 'bake' day! So much fun!
I will also make 'nisu' which is cinnamon rolls with lots of Cardamom and also prune tarts

We do our big dinner Christmas Eve, so that we can all be slugs on Christmas day! We're hosting Christmas this year - prime rib, mashed potatoes, whiskey-glazed carrots, rolls, deviled eggs, little finger food. Have not yet decided on our dessert yet.

Christmas day will be for grazing on appetizers - sweet & sour meatballs, hot artichoke dip, cheese & crackers, veggies & dip, etc., etc.

oh we also do our main dinner on Christmas Eve!!! in South America is like that.... in here, the British way gives attention to the roast dinner, like a very late lunch so everyone is cooking and the kids open presents...then there is Boxing Day on the 26th, which is the day all shops are closed...the city is like deserted.... I think the "Boxing Day" term comes from Victorian times but not sure why , I think had to do with Manor House handing the working class boxes with stuff they wouldn't want/use, but not sure....
I know when we celebrated with my in laws, we would be so heavy of so much eating...boxing day would be laying down LOL

I LOVE the sound of whiskey glazed carrots!!!!!!

I'm enjoying this thread! It's usually just the four of us for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (we're having Christmas with my husband's family the weekend before and my parents a couple of days before)... I'm really liking the idea of having the big meal Christmas Eve and having the leftovers the next day. Past years, we've had a big breakfast and then Jeff and the kids went out to ski all morning while I fixed a big lunch. I'm really warming up to the idea of not spending the day in the kitchen!

Staples for us at Christmas are:

1. Land of Nod Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast Christmas morning. They're a super simple, kind of monkey bread-ish, made with frozen roll dough. You throw everything together the night before and then leave out overnight to thaw and rise. I can put them in the oven when we start opening presents and it's ready when we're done.

2. Trees and Raisins - a broccoli and raisin salad that my grandmother always made.

3. Polish dinner - we always have our version of "Polish dinner" at some point over the holidays. My in-laws make their own kielbasa from the family recipe each year and we have tons of pirogues. Oh... and horseradish with beets!

On Christmas Eve, we will eat roast pork with crackling, sugar-browned potatoes, potatoes with brown sauce, and pickled red cabbage. The grown-ups get Christmas beer. Afterwards, rice pudding for dessert.

The next day, we eat pretty much anything you can imagine putting on a slice of bread. Then, when there's no room to eat anything else, we put whipped cream, vanilla, and almonds in the leftover rice pudding, top it with cherry sauce, and eat that.

All meals on these days are punctuated with people randomly yelling out "SKÅL!" and drinking snaps. When not at the table, one can practice expanding ones stomach by grazing on various chocolates and cookies strategically placed so that there is always something within reach.

Oops, I see it now, Lorry! I am going to check out some new options - You had me at Christmas Beer!

:tree Christmas Eve we spend at our home, just me, the hubby, my daughter Emma and my Mom(who lives with us). We eat prime rib and fixin's and open gifts.

Then come Christmas day the entire family gathers at our house, which involves waaaaay too many peoples in one house. We make ham, cheese hash brown potatoes, and the rest of crew brings a dish or dessert. There is always way more food then necessary, so there are lots of lefts over. By the end of the day, we are all exhausted and ready for the crazies of Christmas to be over. :-)

Because of family dysfunction, we have to have two nights of hosting dinner.

We have my mom, brother, sister, nephew, my godfather and his hubby over for Christmas Eve. We usually do a nice ham and then make au gratin potatoes and a vegetable of some sort. We also have pre-dinner snacks like veggie trays, cheese & crackers, chips & dip, & chex mix. Then we have candies, cookies, and bread pudding for dessert.

Christmas Day we start out with the gooey rolls that others have talked about, and then cook for the next round of family which is my grandma, my uncle, Tim's brother/sis-in-law and his dad. We do a traditional turkey dinner with potatoes, stuffing, rolls, veggies, relish tray, cheese & crackers. When we had bigger groups in previous years, we'd do a beef rib roast as well, but that has sort of gone by the wayside. We throw the leftover ham and potatoes out for anyone who wants that. And then I'm making a cheesecake, a chocolate pie, and probably a pumpkin pie from Costco for dessert.

After two days of back-to-back all-consuming cooking, and dishes for multiple days, I refuse to cook anything the day after Christmas, so there is only foraging that day.

When we have leftover turkey, we sometimes make turkey tetrazzini. And with leftover ham, we usually make split pea soup.
