Friday a week ago, I woke up at 6 with severe pain in my chest, across from shoulder to shoulder- and down my left arm. Hard to breathe. All after a good night's sleep. hmph I took a BP pill to see if it would help. It did not. so I called DH at work and he came home and we went to ER. I was concerned because both parents had triple bypasses, and sister had heart attack. BP was 185/111. Turns out I have hypothyroidism, and the thyroid triggered this attack. Heart is fine. PTL! :angel:agree But who woulda guessed that I would be diagnosed with the opposite of the spectrum from hubby??! (He is hyperthyroidism) So that was last Friday.
Sooooo, Sunday hubster and I looked forward to enjoying a restful day after service. But we didn't make it to service. Stomach issues for me and ankle for him. The tight feeling across my abdomen grew, and pain on right side around to back came and went. I thought I might need a cleanse so we got the stuff on Monday and began. NOT FUN!!! Things settled down by Tues. eve. and I slept the best I had in months! Wed.morning it came back, this time I felt like something was wrong. So off the the ER I went and hubster left school to join me. SURPRISE! Acute gall bladder issue, to be followed by emergency surgery! Called a Cholecystectomy. WHAAAAAT???!!! Surgeon told me that it was inflamed, and once inflamation occurs you have 48-72 hours to correct it. WOW. 6hours and a golf ball sized gallstone it was all over.
I just got home from the hospital a little bit ago. They kept me longer cause I would't wake up in recovery. But all is well so far, and I am so thankful that I went to the ER. Now I can look forward to my birthday this weekend, :ballonhangwhich might not have happened if I had brushed it off! Hope this encourages everyone to listen to that still small voice!:bk

Oh Amanda welcome home and so glad you are ok! Happy early Birthday and try and relax and recupperate.. Great news all is ok! @AJK

What a rough time you've had lately. Sure hope things have settled down now. I had high BP and hypothryoidism. That's why I went onto a low carb diet, to help reduce the inflammation in my body and of course the weight loss was good for my body too. My thyroid is much better, just on a very small dose of synthroid and my BP is perfect. I can't say say that low carb works for everyone, I'm not a doctor or anything, but I know from my own and my friends' experiences that it has helped us all. Something to think about. If you eat white stuff and/or sugar, try going without for awhile and see how your body feels.

Also....my cholesterol was high and the doc argued with me about medications and I got him to agree to giving me 3 months on low carb/clean diet and it worked, my cholesterol is perfect now too.

Oh Amanda! How scary but I praised God that he protected you! Hope you begin to recover and are restored soon. Blessings dear friend!

WOW! That's scary, but glad you caught it when you did!

Oh, I'm glad you are great!! I had this surgery almost 2 years ago, I was scared too...but after a few weeks life is normal and you can eat normally!! I wish you a good recovery!!

Yeah, I had the surgery 20 years ago. I didn't have any stones but sediment just sitting in the bottom of the gallbladder. I know others have issues with spicy foods after the surgery. I don't eat really spicy foods so I haven't had that problem. Lightly spiced is no issue.

Wow, Amanda! So glad you got it taken care of in time! Hope you have a smooth recovery and wonderful birthday!

Thanks everybody!@KimJ , @Ferdy @BevG @cfile
Its been a humdinger of a year for the K household. Sad to say that my son did not come visit me. Sent a text saying "its a simple surgery, you'll be fine." Yeah, let me give you five cuts in your tummy and see if you think it is simple. lol. I've reached a point where I can't pray for them anymore. Its been nearly 3 months. Trusting in other's prayers and God's power. He has preserved my life several times, I gotta believe He will turn this around.

Thank goodness you listened to your body's messages and that you had medical help available. I haven't had my gall bladder removed, but my mother did, many years ago, and it was even then touted as an easy surgery. Pffft. I don't think any surgery is easy. What's so different now is all the technology and then having them boot you out of the hospital within an hour of having surgery, to leave you to your own devices at home. And let's be honest, I'd rather recuperate at home, but there are times when you have pain that you need some assistance and there's none to be had when you get home. So glad you are doing OK and I'm sending wishes for a very happy birthday! I'm praying for your son to realize the gift of his parents.

Oh good golly! I am SOOO thankful you went back in and now have the offending gall bladder removed! Phew. I'm really sorry your son didn't come visit. :( I'll keep praying for a reconciliation there! I hope you have an easy recovery and are able to enjoy your birthday!

I agree. And an emergency one has different set of emotions. Until now I'd never had anything but the two kids! I've been with hubster through his 6 surgeries, with two more looming ahead... All DID go well for me- that they removed it laproscopically- or it would have been another set of challenges. :) Surgeon had great bedside manner too!
I'm praying for your son to realize the gift of his parents.
Thank you. A religious (versus relationship) mindset has overtaken them. Not one easily converted and tends to focus on other's shortcomings. It will take a miracle.:angel

Wow!! How scary! So thankful that everything turned out well for you! I'm so sorry for how things are with your son and you will all be in my prayers as well. Take care of yourself and enjoy your birthday!!
