Happy National Cereal Day!

I grew up eating a bowl of cereal every day for breakfast, but I haven’t eaten a bowl in years now. Some old favorites include Basic 4, Blueberry Morning, Golden Grahams and Reese’s Puffs. One of my kids loves Cheerios like my dad, and another loves Crispy Rice. I think they’re weirdos because they don’t love any of the sugary cereals; they must be more like their dad than me. ;) I buy a box of Lucky Charms once a year for St. Patrick’s Day, and this year I bought the marshmallow one because that’s the only part anyone likes anyway, right?

How about you? Are you a cereal lover? When’s the last time you had a bowl? Any old or new favorites? If cereal isn’t your thing, what’s your breakfast of choice?

Like you I used to eat cereal most days when I was growing up. My mom let us pick any kind we wanted as long as sugar wasn't one of the first 3 ingredients. That pretty much meant none of the GOOD cereals for us. :giggle so we ate a lot of raisin bran and then just poured sugar on top. Ha ha! I love cereal, but I never think to eat it these days. My kids and and hubby love cereal so we always have some around, but I rarely eat it anymore.

My favorites now are the smores cereal or cinnamon toast crunch. I also love granola type cereals, but it hurts my jar to chew it now. Man that makes me sound old! :rofl

Growing up I ate Cheerios, but I've never been a fan of cold cereal b/c I don't like milk, and warm sugary milk is the worst. I used to eat cereal until my father made me drink the milk left in the bowl ... never ate it again ... YUCK!!!

When I was in high school my poor mother made me scrambled eggs, toast, half a grapefruit and OJ every morning. The middle sister had pancakes every morning, no clue what the youngest ate as I was out the door before she was up.

I was the mean mom/grandmother that never allowed my kids to eat cereal with marshmallows ... our dentist was so anti-marshmallows that I just followed along. That said a couple of years ago I gave my adult grandson a 2 lb. bag of cereal marshmallows ... you can buy them on Amazon. He was thrilled. :)

I would eat Rice Krispies as a child and that's how I started making Marshmallow Treats. We cut the recipe off the box (and I still have it!). But got away from eating cereal as an adult.

I was encouraged to eat cereal by a trainer in 2007 but not any of the sugary cereals. I tried Special K with berries and found I liked it. I got away from eating it several years later but since my health issues this last year, I have gone back to eating it. Not every day but several times a week. And, I don't eat it for breakfast! Tuesday I had a small bowl at lunchtime. Sometimes I eat a big bowl for my evening meal if I don't feel like cooking.

That's too bad your mom didn't let you pick the sugar ones lol

I need to try the smores kind! That's right up my alley! I'm exactly the same with granola ones - delicious but too hard on my jaw. Twinners! ;)

Two of my kids won't drink their milk and I think it's a huge waste of milk but oh well.

I have always loved marshmallows. I grew up eating stale ones at my grandma's house and make sure we always have a bag or two for snacking or rice crispy treats. I love that you thrilled your adult grandson with a bag! I just bought a bag of Lucky Charms marshmallows for St. Patrick's day but they're big and soft and NOT the cereal kind; I was so disappointed (grocery pickup fail).

I definitely still eat cereal in rice crispy treat form! ;)

I like Special K, especially with berries. It's always been my mom's favorite.

Cereal is great for any meal IMO!

I LOVE cereal but stopped eating it for years to cut carbs. Coincidentally, Hubby and I started eating cereal again recently. I think partly because we're empty nesters and it's an easy quick "meal" but also because we've just let ourselves eat it again. My #1 favorite cereal is Capn Crunch (and hubby surprised me with a box last week <3) but I try to stick with mostly healthier cereals like Cheerios.

I've definitely gone through phases of eating/not eating cereal. I just bought a double jumbo box of Lucky Charms from Costco yesterday (probably the same St. Patrick's day special edition you mentioned, Monica) - I won't likely eat any of it though. My husband and kids like Rice Krispies. Sometimes I will add ¼ cup of Great Grains to my yogurt and berries, but I've been trying to limit carbs for the last 8-9 months, so I haven't had cereal for at least a year.

Both our dentist and endocrinologist agree that cereal is one of the worst foods. Too much sugar, even if it's not one of the first three ingredients. About five years ago, I quit eating cereal and lost 10 kilos in less than three months.
The ones I used to eat are called "crunchy cereal clusters with oat and fruits" - I miss them for sure :(

I stopped carbs in 2018 and brought them back last year, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Honey Nut Cheerios were the first ones I bought. I love my cereal with half and half. I always had a bowl of cereal for breakfast as a kid, but for some reason my mom always made my sister an egg. I loved Cap'n Crunch even though it shreds the roof of your mouth, LOL and Cocoa Crunch and Lucky Charms. I have a box of Special K Vanilla and Almond in the cupboard right now. It's pretty good, too.

Good job to hubby for surprising you! :) I like Capn Crunch dry, especially the berries.

Great Grains with yogurt and berries sounds delicious! Lately I’ve been adding protein powder to my yogurt. Sometimes I’ll add frozen raspberries too if I want it extra sweet.

Your cereal of choice sounds delicious; sorry you miss them. I’m impressed you lost weight by cutting it out though!

Honey Nut Cheerios was one of my favorites growing up! How could I forget?! Cinnamon Toast Crunch is always good too; the cinnamon milk is the best!

My mom never bought cereal growing up...it was a treat that we only got at Grandma's house. I buy it now though. My favorites are the new mini Reese's Puffs! They are so tiny and cute and fun to eat!! I don't eat it often though, just a treat every once in awhile. I also love Frosted Mini Wheats!

I grew up on Frosted Mini Wheats too! Now I buy Cinnamon Harvest which is a healthier version (no frosting but the cinnamon flavor makes up for it).

I’ll have to look for the mini Reese’s Puffs!

We had cereal quite a bit growing up (all the unhealthy ones). Some of my faves: cap'n crunch, cinnamon toast crunch, honey oh's, cracklin' oat bran, golden graham's.

But I rarely eat cereal now. Usually for a snack and it's the more "healthy" kind like Special K.

My kids have cereal once a week. It's like a treat. Haha. But it's usually Cheerios, Mini Wheats or Chex.
I tell my kids they are spoiled because they get a healthy warm breakfast every morning except for one. I'm not sure if they are buying it.

I ate a lot of cereal growing up and even in early adulthood: Trix, Honey Grahams, Honey Bunches of Oats, even sometimes Lucky Charms. But a couple of decades ago, I gathered an understanding about how unhealthy it is and it became an occasional treat. Eventually I stopped liking any of it. Except granola. I still like granola and eat it occasionally, as an evening snack. I consider it a way to get more Vitamin D in me, from the soy milk I pour over it. :D

I'm not a big cereal eater (or breakfast for that matter). But I do love Lucky Charms once or twice a year. And I occasionally eat oatmeal or cream of wheat because they remind me of my grandpa. When we were kids, my grandma would sleep late, and my grandpa would make us cereal with brown sugar and half & half. That's the only way I can eat it now. :giggle
