Today is Go Caroling Day!

I think the last time I actually went caroling was in high school a lot of years ago. I was in the choir and we would go caroling every year. I can't say as I have ever had any carolers outside my door ever, but I think it would be neat!

Have you been caroling? Have you had carolers at your house?
And bonus: Do you have a favorite Christmas carol?
I think mine would be Carol of the Bells :)

When I was in high school (about 45 years ago), our church youth group would go. You know, load a bunch of teens into cars (sitting on laps needed) and drive from house to house in the snow of the Midwest. Some fun memories there.

As an adult some 30 years ago, we went with friends once to elderly people from church. It was fun. Never had carolers at my house.

Favorite carol - ummm, I like almost all of them. I do have a memory of a version of Silent Night where we added some pots and pans. I was the oldest of 6 kids and one year we did the nativity story as a play for my parents. We sang Silent Night and added some extra "drums". Now some 50+ later, I hear "Silent Night - bang, boom, bing - Holy Night - bing, boom, bam - all is calm - bam, boom, bing - all is bright- bang, boom, bing..." I was talking to my sisters about this recently and they can only hear this song the same way too!

My parents were in several choirs when we were growing up. They even sang semi-professionally. Thusly, we went caroling with them for many years and it was really fun. We always went caroling with the church and I still remember going to the "shut-in's" homes to carol. They just loved it and the looks on their faces were priceless.

I have been caroling quite a few times. I went a couple times as a kid with my Mom who was in the church choir, and then I've gone a couple of times with our church... but ironically NOT with our church choir. It was sent out by our youth pastor and I went to take the kids. It was kind of a disaster because we didn't have any music or a pitch pipe so we were winging it. I'm very thankful nobody took video. :rofl

When I led a homeschool group several years ago, we arranged caroling events a couple of times. We gathered at one of our houses, then walked, singing, in the neighborhood. It was a fabulous activity for my kids who love to perform.

We go to the nursing home almost every year and carol with our homeschooling friends. Not this year though. :( We did make up a bunch of ornaments for them though.

Growing up we went as a church group and went around to several elderly people's homes who couldn't get out much. It was always so fun bundling up, driving around with all of our friends and then singing loud and watching the faces of joy.

I love so many Christmas songs. Not sure I can pick my favorite. Maybe O Holy Night.

Speaking of Christmas songs I just have to share this song my daughter wrote.

Hahaha I'm sure it was great and those on the receiving end loved it, winging it or not :)

OH MY! That song is absolutely wonderful!! She is so talented!! I have listened several times now!:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub Amazing!

We used to carol all the time, but haven't in a while :(
My favorite Christmas song is Oh Holy Night. Love it!

The kids on my street growing up (7 houses) would get together and go caroling every year. We'd carol on our street and the next street over, then come back to my house and my mom would serve hot chocolate and candy canes. I also caroled with my Girl Scout troop at a local nursing home.

My fav childhood carol/hymn was The First Noel. My favorite non-Christian song is "White Christmas" sung by Bing Crosby, although I like The Drifter's version too.

@Scrapping with Liz Your daughter is very talented!

So going caroling is not a big thing here, however our church always hosts a carols evening or two for the community. This year with events being limited to a max of 100 people because our covid numbers are so high we live-streamed our carols event.
