Happy National Bucket List Day!

I think the last time I wrote out a bucket list was for a challenge here at The Lilypad. Before that there was a list I wrote on paper and kept in my old wallet. I haven’t seen either list for a very long time, but one thing I’d still like to do before I kick the bucket is swim with dolphins or whales.

How about you?
Have you ever made a bucket list?
What’s one thing you want to do before you kick the bucket?

Fun fact: There’s a Lilypad collab called Summer Bucket List! It’s the first Lilypad collab I ever owned and I still love all the bright, fun colors it has. :)

I did a program called "Dream Manager" through my employer in 2013. One part of it was making a list of 100 dreams and assigning a time period in which to get them done. I put them on a spreadsheet.

Some of those dreams are done, some are something I decided not to do (like sell my house and move to Florida... why move when this house is paid off!)

Along with that I set up a "dream board" in my office and wrote some of my dreams on cards. When I finished a dream, I transferred it to the "complete dreams board". I took them down last summer to put up some of my cross stitch projects that were sitting in a closet.

Right now, the main things on this list of dreams is 1: visit all 50 states and 2: do a counted cross stitch for each state I've visited. After many years of not traveling, I knocked off 1 state last year and plan to get another 6 done this year. And, I'm now planning my 2026 and 2027 travels (Australia/New Zealand in 2027) to hopefully get some more of my travel dreams done.

I think the biggest list I ever made was maybe ten? I need to challenge myself to 100 now! I love the idea of making it visual with cards too and moving them once they’re complete. Thanks for the inspiration!

I've never actually written anything down, but I do have a lot of things I'd like to do. Probably tops of my bucket list for the longest time has been to go skydiving. I'm not getting any younger, so I should make a list and start checking things off!

I was shocked when my neighbor told me she’s been skydiving! I’ve always wanted to go but DH doesn’t trust it so we did indoor skydiving instead and it was fun.

Like you, I think the last time I made a bucketlist was for a scrap challenge here. I should go dig up that layout. Lol. I think the top of my bucketlist is to go to Paris and definitely go to the Louvre while I'm there. Someday I might also add the "visit all 50 states" type of challenge too.

The program was based off of a book, The Dream Manager by Matthew Kelly. It is a quick read and inspiring. It inspired me to become the best version of me that I could be in both my work and personal lives. Add in Dave Ramsey's program, "Financial Peace" that I had taken the year before really changed how I saw and lived my life.

I don't think I've ever made a written bucket list. However, top of my list is driving Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica. I had planned to go last May and my intention was to take my time and not have a return date.

However, my niece got married last June, so I postponed the trip until this May ... now my bonus granddaughter is getting married the end of May, so I've postponed the trip AGAIN. I've warned family members that I will NOT be attending anything next spring/summer that I will be driving Route 66. 2026 is the centennial for Route 66, so it's probably a great year to travel it.

My sister and her hubby are currently driving from VA to the Grand Canyon, and they have traveled Route 66 in Texas and NM ... I am so jealous. :)

I did a bucket list LO in 2004!

I think I've done about 3 of the things! LOL

I don't have a concrete list but I do love to dream a ridiculous dream and then go ahead and work towards it. I had "photograph the Milky Way" on there for over a decade before I was finally into a position to do it. So now it's shifted to "photograph the Milky Way in a Bortle 1* sky" instead. I also decided I wanted to get married in the Dry Tortugas and that was actually remarkably easy. Even getting in and out of a seaplane in a wedding dress with a train wasn't terrible and the pilot did rescue my shoe. Maybe camping in the Dry Tortugas should be my next dream because it is a Bortle 1 and my happy place?

* The Bortle scale measures light pollution. Major cities are the top of the scale at 9 and most of the Eastern US is too developed. Even my favorite pockets of darkness near-ish me are only a 2 or 3. But out west, especially in national parks, is the dark sky of my dreams.
