I want to get a bread maker, but there are so many out there that I don't have a clue as to where to start. It's overwhelming just looking at all of the options. Any suggestions?

I have this one from Cuisinart: http://www.cuisinart.com/products/bread_makers/cbk-100.html

It's a decent machine, and I don't have any major issues or complaints, other than it's NOT my old Oster breadmaker. Loved that thing, and I used it literally to death. Had I known they would quit making it, I would have bought 3 to keep as backups!

My only advice would be to make sure you get one that goes up to 2 lbs (some of them only go up to 1 1/2 lbs) and that it has a delay bake option, so you can start it in the morning and set the delay timer.

My mom and sister got me one for my bday and I love it! I think they are all pretty equal though! I have an Oster one. :)

I'm looking for one too. I'm going to test drive my friend's bread maker first before getting one. :) I don't know which one she has.

I am so impressed you want a bread maker! lol. I just gave one to Goodwill with a million other things in our move last month. We got it over a decade ago as a wedding gift. It did get used but not enough to justify the space that monster took up! I bet they make them smaller now.... good luck! I always loved the smell in the house when I used it.

I would love to know more about them too. I was looking at some a couple weeks ago, and it was a little overwhelming. I didnt know which one or what kind, was going to look them up on the internet to see what was what about them.(info)
I had so many questions about them...
Does it do the mixing for you? the kneeding? then what about the rising part? How does it come out? How much flour do I need to start with?
I never got to look it up though. I think with getting the flu and SIL needing help with her two little ones. (she was due at any time), plus cermonies for my niecce. I just totally forgot about it.

I think this thread will be very helpful for me..heheh.. :)

Thanks Jordan for the thread!

The machine does everything. You can actually buy a box mix that has everything you need - dump the mix and yeast in, add water, press a few buttons, and 3+ hours later, you have wonderfully yummy bread!!

i really need that machine :)

I wish they would come up with a machine that would do the whole dinner stuff for you too. ehhehe.

I had one years ago, but gave it away because I wasn't using it. Now I wish I would have kept it because I'd definitely use it these days!

Have you bought one yet? If so which one did you go with? I am trying to move my family in the direction of more natural foods and getting rid of all the processed junk and I was looking into a bread machine but so confused on which way to go.

Bread machines didn't work for us. With 4 boys, we'd eat a loaf in one sitting. I ended up getting a wheat grinder and a Bosch and I'd make 4 whole wheat loaves at one time. I'd freeze 3 and the loaves were much larger than the bread machine ones, so a loaf would last us 2 days usually (although the first loaf went in one day...when it's fresh out of the oven!).

I still have everything but I haven't made any in a long time. I should get everything out, go and buy some wheat kernals (hard white is my fave) and bake some bread! YUMMMM!!

We just got a new breadmaker and it is so much nicer than the old one I had. It is by Breadman and it is fantastic. My old maker was a PITA in that it was always hard to get the loaf out and the spinner in the bottom was always stuck in the loaf. With this new one, the loaf easily slides out and we have had no issues. Much easier cleanup too!

No. I haven't bought one yet, but I'm pretty certain that I'm going with the Panasonic I linked to earlier in the thread. I hardly found a bad review on that one, and all of the others had more mixed reviews. It makes up to a 2.5 lb. loaf, so that will be plenty for us. I'm excited about getting it and being able to make bread with out all the "junk" added.

Have you seen this website, Amanda? http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/ It's wonderful. And her recipes are now part of our regular rotation and so, so yum! Try the Pork Tacos with Homemade Tomatillo Salsa. To. Die. For. Also try the Crock Pot Whole Chicken. It melts in your mouth!
