Our "statewide" online library only lets you have 5 holds at a time and 5 ebooks checked out. The county is insane and lets you have 20 holds and 30 ebooks checked out at a time. It is like that with the actual books too. I think you can have 100 checked out at one time.
I'm similar. I have both the county, and the city library at my disposal. The city library itself is huge, but only has 4 branches. The county library extends out to encompass 20 libraries, and a huge amount of area. You can have 50 books at a time out on one card, and 10 ebooks with the county. The city library is 100 items at once. I don't think either have a limit on holds?
And yes, I've hit that 50 limit. In fact, my son got a library card so he can have 50, and we can do 100 in our household. Picture books and learn to read books add up fast! He usually has 25-30 books checked out for him alone! We have the Library Elf service that will automatically renew books for me if there's no one on the wait list. That saves my butt when it comes to late fees. I love the Lucky Day service - 7 days, no renewals, all new books.
We've been horrible at going to the library since summer started. But in the winter we are there once or twice a week. I think I qualify as a bookaholic most of the time. Right now I have 3 ebooks to finish, thank goodness I can turn off wi-fi on my Kindle and keep them a little longer!
