My mom bought me a gift card for Blurb two Christmases ago. And I also have a 25% discount code through Clickin Moms. I have always thought that gift cards were like cash and I should be able to use it with a coupon. But the Blurb site says I cannot use them together. Gift cards aren't like "promotions," right? Someone paid money for it.

Is it common practice that a gift card is treated like a coupon so that you cannot combine? I understand not combining multiple discounts, but not letting you use the gift seems outrageous to me.

I'm questioning whether I'll ever order a book from Blurb again! I wonder if I can get them to refund that money to my mom.

I will tell you, you must likely will not get a refund. Refunds on Gift Cards are near impossible to achieve anywhere. It may be not badly intentioned from their part only that they have their store set up incorrectly, but not sure.

irksome! that is what that is!! pure irksome! It is how their cart system is set up, they have GC as a coupon. What an awesome mom to think about what you love to do, and give that certificate! I hope you are able to use it!

It all worked out after I contacted them! They responded very quickly. I placed my order using the gift code from my mom. Then they issued me a refund for my % off coupon. I think I actually got a little more discount than I should have because it looks like the guy took 25% off not just the book but the tax and shipping too.

Dalis, you are probably right - it was most likely a badly programmed shopping cart and not that they were trying to nickle and dime the customers. After describing the whole transaction to my husband he gave me this little bit of wisdom: "It's best not to blame something on malice, when it can easily be credited to stupidity."
