so, my baby's turning 5 at the beginning of april :overreact

i need an opinion.

she's VERY girly. i think most of you know this. lol she's very into pink/purple. glitter. boys. music. she just exudes all things 'typical' girl.

she has decided she wants this cake (thanks mom)...

would you also do like a candyland themed party (i don't do BIG themes, i just mean like plates/napkins/maybe a candy bar instead of the food we usually do) or stick with what we normally do and do the typical foods and get her just solid colored plates/napkins/etc.?

I would just do solid plates, napkins etc. Maybe you could do some Candy Land inspired decorations though, so that it all ties in?

I think the candy bar is a great idea, but I'm not sure I'd splurge for themed plates and napkins that will probably not even be noticed by 5 yr olds, kwim?

I go with cheap! If paper towels are less, that's what they get! awesome cake there! You making it?

Good Luck, girl!! I'm a theme-type party person. I tend to go all out with the matching decorations. But I'm sure I notice it more than the kiddos do.

Laura that cakelooks awesome and I agree with Sarah that they will probably not notice the plates but some decorations would be awesome to get into the theme!

That cake is awesome! I figured it was a store bought cake, but then I clicked on the link and realized it's homemade. Wow. Are you going to be the one to make it?

Anyway....the candy bar idea is cool, but I would definitely do the solid color plates and napkins. I agree that your daughter probably won't even notice, especially with such a cool cake taking center stage.

I'd go for colours rather than themed xx

Ty recently had his 6th birthday party, I bought themed decorations, but the napkins etc were colour co ordinated rather than themed xx

My daughter turned 6 last year and it was the first party that we had more kids than adults. For kids, a candy bar is probably fine. But if you have lots of adults, food is always nice to keep them busy, lol!! I would do solid colored napkins and stuff too. I usually buy one pack of themed plates and napkins and then all the rest at the dollar store and mix them up.

Funny to remember after reading this. When I was small my Aunt made me a Barbie cake. The dress was the cake and my Barbie was in the dress. That was my only theme party growing up. I remember everything about that cake (and I'm 54), but not much more about that day. So I would think the cake (besides your little one of-course) will be the star of the day, and remembered for a long time. Have a great party!

thanks girlies! i'm going to go with solid plates/napkins and stuff i think. i'm going to make the cake...i think LOL with the help of my mom. she's lucky i love her LOL

that cake is freaking awesome... I would do solid plates, napkins, etc... buy maybe have a small part of the table with all type of candies for kids to snack on.
