I have 2 birthdays coming up in March.
my son is turning 11 on the 10th
and my baby girl turns 5 on the 14th.
Because of so many other things going on this month
and a buttload of family birthdays the same month.
I've (crazily) decided to do BOTH birthday parties on the same day.

Jenna wants an under the sea (mermaid) theme

and Jens wants to do rockets.....
(I'm thinkin I'm going to have my husband take him and his friends
out to the mesa and launch rockets for an hour
then back to the house for a craft, a game and cake and ice cream)

I've been looking all over the net for ideas.
(usually I'm pretty clever coming up with ideas...but this time I'm stumped)
I've done an under the sea party for lindsey when she turned 3 but that one was SO much work complete with a duck game and fish pond but I don't want to do that again.. plus her party was in the summer.. It's still cold here..

I need ideas for appropriate age crafts and games..
Jennas will be indoors for 1.5-2 hours..
and Jens rocket party will be outdoors first hour and inside for .5-1 hour.

I HATE long drawn out parties..
get those kids in and out.......I say.
ROFL

here are some bits of inspiration I have for crafts and decor..
but I can use so much MORE help!

tia!!!!

off the top of my head..we made starfish barrettes at my dd's Little Mermaid Party- quick and easy. Starfish clip-on earrings would be totally cute too-this is my dd's and my little craft this week...

I would have the boys make a quickie rocket to take with them and then launch!

hmmm I'll have to think about this! I like the idea of the boys making rockets first!

When my girls turned 6 they had a scrapping party and their first activity was making poppets. I had bodies and clothes and accessories cut out of pp and CS and they made up their dolls and then stuck them to pop sticks. They LOVED it! You could do that with mermaids.

wow you go all out! LOL My son just went to his first birthday party last week and they got there the mom put on a movie, we had hotdogs and cake then presents then home time LOL

My son once played this fishing game at a carnival. Went something like this:

There was a sheet or something decorated with some sort of fishing/ocean theme. It was suspended somehow, probably on a clothing line or something.

Kid stood in front with a fishing pole that had a string with a clip or something on the end. Kid cast the fishing line over the sheet.

There was a person hiding behind the sheet who grabbed the fishing line and clipped a little prize onto it. Kid pulls back the line with the "fish" (prize).

Hope you can picture what I'm talking about. I thought it was very cute. but I guess it requires some work/set up. And I guess it doesn't really have much to do with mermaids ...

craftwise, i'm thinking something with shells .... I am very helpful, eh?

oh love those fish balloons

could try this: Fill a ziploc bag with blue hair gel and put small sea creatures in the bag with the gel (result of google search)

mimi...that's the fishing game we did at lindsey's 3rd party that i do NOT want to do again.
LOL
i just hate making somebody sit behind a sheet the whole party.. kwim?
i made my husband do it last time, but i'm not sure he'll be willing to do that now.
LOL

these are all good ideas....thanks guys!
i like the ziploc baggie idea, although i'm worried it may be too messy.
i will have cups with blue jello and gummy fish in them as a snack.

i need to find some shells with holes in them
so the little girls can maybe make necklaces or bracelets.

oh brynn.
that party is SO CUTE!
i wonder if i want to attempt those skirts!
so cute!
crowns are a must..
love the sushi sammies.
YUM!
i dont' know how many little girls jenna wants to invite..
i'm worried she wants to invite her entire prek class.
that would be about 15 girls.
oy.

i wonder how she made those brownie pops..
do you think she just used cookie cutters to cut them out and stick the stick in?
or do you think she molded them and froze them like you do the cake pops.
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
i love that idea!

oh dana!!!!
so CUTE!
i just might order those books..
eek!

and my poor son.....no rocket inspiration?
they are older.......and little girls are just so much more fun!
ROFL

hmmmmmmmmmmmm
i love that idea!

It looks like she used a star shaped mold then stuck the stick in after.

ETA...I just googled brownie pops and found this...it says mini muffin pans but I am sure you could used a shaped muffin pan.

oooh brynn - those rocket party links are fab!!

we made rockets in high school physics and launched them - so fun - but it took a LONG time to make the ones we launched - like several hours .. so wouldn't really work for a party :(

dana..
those sound like the kind of rockets we are launching......
http://www.acsupplyco.com/estes/bulk.htm

we've been doing them this way for a lonnnnnnng time.
it's one of our favorite family outings...
although having the boys make those
water pressured ones would be awesome.. (they do them at scout camp)
it's just too cold here still in march

i did find these....that might be fun
Rocket Flyers
a rocket with a rubber band at the top
so they can flick them around.

(probably at each other.. LOL)

you guys have been amazing.
i KNEW it was a good idea to come in here and ask for help!

ooh yes jacque - those look similar to what we made ... i'm actually not even sure what took so long about them - i think it was the painting, etc ... are you building them beforehand? or will the boys actually build them at the party? now i'm going to go re-read the OP b/c you probably already explained LOL!
