My son has a bedtime routine. And I envy it a little bit. Within 10 minutes of finishing, and tucking him in, he is sound asleep.

Me? Nope! Not at all. I struggle with insomnia, so I've been thinking I should start one. Do you have one? Does it work to help you sleep at night?

no I don't. I can fall asleep immediately, but I wake up around 2 am and toss and turn for what seems like forever before I fall back to sleep.

bed time routine is important. I am a terrible sleeper, in fact I purchased a fit bit type device mostly to learn about my sleeping habits since they are not good and I am tired all the time. bla bla..
So, I first started going to bed at the same time every night, then started eliminating TV right before then, etc. Routine will help for sure.. It helped me.

Maybe try diffusing a little essential oil? Lavender is good. The company I purchase from, Plant Therapy, has a calming blend that I diffuse in the evenings a lot and it helps me relax.

In my mid 40s I only slept 4 hours MAX each night, I decided to flow with it! I scrapped like a mad woman, organized and read tons of books. I also do a 20 minute power nap daily. 2pm usually, but I can rearrange if needed. That made the difference.
Now, I am out at 10pm nightly...gone, hopefully in bed, sometimes in recliner...but I'm out until 5am. lol

I only need about 6 hours of sleep...even if I try to get more than that I'm up way early. Once my head hits the pillow I am out!

I head to bed at 11:30. Brush teeth, wash face, get into bed and my hubby and I watch a few short youtube videos (usually funny stuff)...and I usually fall asleep while we watch them. My hubby jokes around and asks, "You want to fall asleep watching youtube videos with me?" It usually takes me about 2 - 3 minute videos and I'm out!

My kids have bedtime routines--we are big on making sure they get enough sleep and part of that really is in the routine--but until I read this thread, I didn't really think about my own "routine." I must brush my teeth and then wash my face (in that order) and then hop into bed. And I can't fall asleep without playing Kakuro. It's like Sudoku. I used to check email when I hopped into bed before playing Kakuro, but I realized that it was becoming harder to fall asleep because of the light (phone/tablet light really harshes your sleepy mellow) and cuz I'd get sucked into browsing Instagram lol. So I turn my phone's wifi off before I get into bed, and I've stopped reading on my Kindle Fire in bed. If I read a book before Kakuro, it's an actual paper book. I won't say I've magically become a better sleeper by staying off my devices, but I'm such a light sleeper that I think it's important for me to try my hardest to get/stay asleep.

Well, you know this . . . I love to stay up late. I'm more creative late at night. My sleep schedule was wack.

When Olivia went to college, I gradually started moving back my go-to-sleep time. It's best for me to start doing my nighttime routine of picking up any last minute things and putting them away, starting the dishwasher, washing my face/brushing teeth, around 10:30/10:45. I like to be in bed by 11 pm. I try to stay off computer and devices for a while before going to sleep, unless it's the weekend. I find I can get to sleep much easier if I've taken time to unplug and unwind.
