Would you shave your head for a good cause? I don't think I'm brave enough, but my 19 year old niece is. She is raising money for St. Baldericks to support pediatric cancer research and shaved her head this weekend. Her hair is being donated to Locks of Love to provide wigs for children suffering from long term medical hair loss.

She's such a brave and loving girl. Bald really is beautiful, especially when you're helping others!

She's looks amazing! And good for her for working for such a good cause. It's so wonderful to see kids doing things like this.

Last year, my youngest died his hair pink and then had it shaved off for a challenge for supporting cancer research at the local children's hospital here. And he raised over $1000 for cancer research!

Here he is going pink:

And here he is going bald:

She is gorgeous! What a selfless act!

Hmmm....that's definitely something to ponder. I would like to think that I'm brave and bold enough to do something like this. If I did, it would have to be over the summer though. I'm too much of a weenie to do it in the winter months.

Definitely! Since I was a teenager, I've often thought it would be nice to be be bald, not have to deal with hair, stay cool in hot weather. Just cutting it almost all the way off as I did a year ago is enough, but maybe someday I will go completely bald. :D

Yay for young people doing such proactive and supportive things!

That is so awesome!! I'm not sure that I would, but I have so much respect for those that do!

A little different, but I have a student in my class who has Alopecia. She has no hair and has never tried to cover it in any way. She is such a beautiful girl with the most amazing attitude. For Halloween, she has come to school dressed as Charlie Brown and Mr. Clean :giggle. She often tells us how little time it takes her to get ready to go out because she doesn't have to deal with the hair thing. I admire her so much!! She is a senior this year and her quote in the yearbook will say "Five years of high school and not one bad hair day" :giggle.

I like her attitude!!

I don't know if I'm brave enough now but I know a woman whose daughter has Alopecia and Mom shaved her head in support. She shaved her long blond hair and now has a very short salt and pepper hair ( what grew back in ) and everyone says she is much more attractive now. She keeps it short to support her daughter but she also gets so many compliments from people who don't even know the reason for the hairdo.

Beautiful stories and wonderful causes! I salute their bravery. I don't think I could do it, but it's awesome that they did.

Nope. Recently I was losing my hair at an alarming rate, so I know how much I like it and missed it. It was a wonderful gesture by your niece, though. She looks beautiful without hair!
