Back up suggestions...

Now that MOC is over, (and my celebration of completing it has come to an end )... I need some suggestions...

How do you back up your computer files? I know this was talked about not that long ago, but I can’t find the thread. I have a couple EHD’s, but I would like to invest in a not so cumbersome way to back my files up.
Quite frankly, I’d like to not have to think too much about it, so something that would automatically back up would be great for me.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

BackBlaze is wonderful. I just had an EHD die and I was able to get a replacement drive. You pay for the drive and can either keep it or send it back after moving your "items" off to your own drive for a full refund.

I really appreciate the backup since i would have lost all of my pics

I am on a Mac and have Time Machine back up my HD automatically - and then I have BackBlaze for my EHDs (I have a lot of them!) as well as my HD. It works seamlessly in the background and so worth it!

I back up automatically with Backblaze and also back up all my photos and scrapbook pages manually with SmugMug.

I have BackBlaze as 1 form of backup. I also have an EHD that does an auto backup twice a week. Only thing that EHD is used for. I also have a couple of other EHD's that I routinely copy all digi files as well as other important stuff to, in other words several important folders from my C drive are also on these EHD's. I also have a small EHD that only has digi stuff on it and it gets updated when I'm going away to digi scrap. I work from this EHD instead of my laptop hard drive.

So in other words, I have 4 different forms of backup.

I have BackBlaze. It backs up my laptop (except for some folders I've set as exceptions because I don't need them backed up and I didn't want to waste time uploading them). I don't keep everything on my laptop, so I have to make sure I have at least two copies of my files somewhere else. I have 3 EHDs here; BB also backs up one EHD (each EHD has the same files so there's no need to back up all 3). BB is like $5/month or less if you sign up for a whole year. Every once in a while I double-check to make sure things are being backed up as it should be; otherwise I don't worry about it. So simple!

On a semi-related notes, one of my EHDs has had difficulty when I've jected it from my computer. (My laptop says the EHD is "busy," which I know it's not.) I think it's time for a new one, and there's an 8TB EHD on sale at Costco this month. I'm so tempted!

Up until recently I did use Backblaze. I may go back to them as they do seem like the best option. I just got salty after my computer crashed and I found out that only my jpeg files were backed up, none of my .NEF files when it is supposed to back them all up. Support told me that the program just hadn't gotten to them yet since it takes more time to upload, but I had had the service for like a year, so you'd think that would be enough time. I've learned my lesson though - I'm not leaving any of my pics as .NEF files anymore!!

Thank ladies. I’m so glad I asked. My hubs has been doing some research as well, and I think Backblaze is the most reliable and cost effective. I’ll keep my EHD’s for sure, but I love that it works seamlessly in the background.

Thanks again friends!

I'm another backblaze user too! I love that it just runs in the background & I don't have to think about it at all! I do check the monthly 'update' email I get just to make sure it's working properly but so far no problems! I also keep everything on my EHD, as well as my photos also on google photos (auto upload there too!) ;)

I have now installed Backblaze as of last month and it is still backing up as I do have a lot of files. I like the fact I was able to choose which files not to back up.

I am a Backblaze fan!!
I don't save anything on my hard drive - it's all on an EHD, backed up daily with BB.
Good luck! :-)

I upload all my pics to shutterfly which is kind of like a backup and I also use backblaze! They r the best!

Backblaze here too. Lost an ehd, they sent me a solid state one, showed up within 3 days. I transferred it all, sent back and was credited fast! love it!

This could actually be BackBlaze. Lol!
Mine will say it's busy when BackBlaze is checking the files, or backing them up.
If I close BackBlaze, it'll eject.

This sucks! I tried a different service (iDrive) and had the same issue. Only for me it wasn't photos luckily, just layouts and a few kits.

I've stuck with BackBlaze ever since.

I thought that, but it's a non-BB EHD. I looked in BB to make sure it hadn't accidentally been re-named that EHD. (I had a problem with BB messing with the assigned EHD's "name," which meant it wasn't getting backed up; I assigned F:/ to my BB EHD to avoid that problem.) And I did quit BB just to make sure it wasn't looking through that EHD for fun lol. Maybe there's something else going on that I'm not thinking of? But hey, if this is a reason to buy a big 8TB EHD, I'm not complaining! :giggle

Of course not! In fact, I'm considering whether I need one!
Yes, you need to get one!

Backblaze it is! I'm going to be setting myself up this weekend :) Thanks to all for your input. Can't wait to NOT worry about losing everything. As I said, I have everything on an EHD, but that could go out any minute and I don't want to worry about that. :) Happy backing up!
