We have a sitter coming over tonight to watch our son (5) and his cousin (3). I asked her how much for 2 kids and she said whatever we think is fair. For just one we pay her 12/hr. (She is more expensive because she used to be our Nanny) So what do you think we should pay her for 2 kids? She will have to put them both to bed...

Oh geez. I have NO clue. Half that for the second kid? So $18/hr? $20/hr?

Damn. I need to start babysitting.

Our babysitter is a nanny as well and what Julie suggested is exactly what we do. She gets $10/hr for the first kid and $5/hr additional per child. I always round up too, so if you're out for 3 1/2 hours, I would pay for 4 as a tip.

i need to go where you live! When i babysat as a teen i got 2$ an hour and i babysat for 3 years for a little boy while i had my kids and he wrecked everything in site and i only got 4$ an hour...

If I could get someone at those rates I would go out all the time!! :martini

We have a couple girls across the street that babysit for us most of the time now. We only pay them $7 - $8 an hour. I am going to miss that when I move. Hopefully we can find some sitters close by in Brussels.

babysitting in our area is $12 - $15/hour .. and i always round up/give a tip ....

whoa you guys pay a LOT! lol.

when our sitters come and watch the three of 'em, they get between $8-10/hr MAX....

Dang!!!! Can I come be your babysitter? For our two kids, we pay our sitters $10/hr for the time she's there and they're awake and then $7/hr after they've gone to bed. We also always round up.

We have a 14 year old girl who is wonderful and we pay her between $9-10 hr for our two kids. I have friends who use nannies and they pay in the $12-15 range.

the going rate here in ALB.
is about $3-$4 per child per hour.
i know this, because my 13 year old
tends quite a bit.
i know the price is different everywhere.
but that's what it is here!

o good to know!!! I've been wondering what the rates were- my dd (14) is just starting up!

Another reason I'm SOOOOOO GLAD we live by family! The only time I've ever paid a babysitter was for my birthday party this year where the adults were all downstairs and the babysitters hung out with the kids upstairs. LOL

bloody hell im glad i have family to have mine, when i was younger i used to baby sit for 2 boys from about 7 till 11 on a friday and saturday and she used to bung me a fiver for the friday and £3 for the saturday i think i was ripped off lol, story of my life

when linney (my oldest) was 11.5 we started leaving her
with the kids.... (i have 4)
we just started with short dinners.
then nicer longer dinners after she turned 12.
and now that she is almost 14, i'm ready to leave her with her siblings over night..
LOL
(totally kidding-maybe next summer)
but it is SOOOOOOOO awesome having a live in baby sitter!!

-that is ofcourse, unless she has a 'paying' job.. then she'll ditch us.
flat.
HAAAAAAAAAAA

WOW, that's the going rate of babysitting these days? I'd go broke.
We have a 12 year old (very responsible) that we use regularly and we pay her $5 an hour for 2 kids, and I was told we were paying too much. She was bragging to her friends about how much we pay and now we're like the cool family to babysit for. LOL

But, it must depend on the area you live!
