Does anyone know anything about baby swordtail fish? We just found a lonesome fry in our tank and want to keep it alive.. I did some research but I'm no hardcore fish expert so it's kind of overwhelming. There's so much info out there. For now we put it in it's own little tank and fed it ground up fish flakes... anyone able to help me out? Adrien will go to the pet store tomorrow sometime to see if here anything he can find....

That should do it Renee - you may do well to get some fry food and make sure it has some weed if it's in a proper tank and not a floater in your main tank...

awww!! Sorry I can't help as I kill healthy fish just by bringing them to my house!
But can you get a pic?? :luvya

Here is some info for ya

It is common for female Swordtails to give birth sitting at the bottom of the aquarium. If you decide to let the female Swordtail give birth in the large aquarium, densely planted areas with bushy species are absolutely imperative if you want any fry to survive.

When the fry is born they will happily eat liquid fry food, newly hatched brine shrimp or flake food that you have crushed into a fine powder. Their diet should also ideally include Spirulina algae. The combination of Spirulina and Brine shrimp is known to make the fry grow very rapidly, and this diet will usually make them show their true colours earlier.

We have fish and the ones that we have are supposed to give birth like every 30-90 days and in the year + we've had them i havent seen one but the bigger fish tend to eat them too.

I'm so blonde that I thought one of your boys dropped a french fry into the water and now you are wondering if the fish will survive that?!

Poor Manda.... lol! You're too funny!!!

So Adrien went and got those multi breeder thingys and the pregnant fish is in a separate compartement ('cause she has a baby coming out!) and the little baby is in another compartment. Caleb is just in heaven! He's loving these little fish!
