So who has an Audible subscription? I recently started a new job and commute almost 2.5 hours/day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursdays and thought this might be a good option. I'm SO tired of podcasts. I listened to my first book (cheap download) this week and am kind of hooked. As I started looking, though, audio books are expensive!

I may give the Audible subscription a try - there's a free 30-day trial.

Oh, I am SO ADDICTED to Audible.com. And if you are a member, you get all kinds of deals. Oh, and make sure you always check out whispersync with amazon if available. You can often get books even cheaper by buying the e-book 1st. My eyes have gotten worse recently so that by the end of the day, I have trouble reading, even with my glasses. (Old Eyes) Audible is my salvation! Plus, it's awesome to listen during housework/laundry and exercise.

I'm listening to the Outlander series (again) now. There are definitely some books that are read better than others, but overall I've been thrilled with my subscription and found it well worth it.

I love audio books at work too, but I get mine for free from my library. Most public libraries have ebooks and audio books to check out all online. Also, if you have a little time to invest, you can check out the audio book on CD from your library, then rip to your computer and transfer to an MP3 player.

P.s. I'm really cheap if you hadn't guessed. :giggle

i am sooooo addicted to audible, I have 100's of books on my computer, i listen to "books" while scrapping, 2 fav hobbies at the same time.
I started listening to books on tape in my car when I had a long commute, loved it, made the time pass....now I have a 5 minutes commute but listen to books ALL the time at home. I'm not really a TV watcher.

try it, you will love it...and I think you can get your first book free

I love listening to books. I usually get them on my phone from the library's digital download/e-library managed by Overdrive. I also grab books on CD whenever I happen to be inside the library.

Overdrive at the library is really the way to go! Check and see if your library has it. If not, they typically have a lot of books on Cd or on these little ipod type things available.

I've been downloading audiobooks through the library for years. But here's the problem with that (at least in the Los Angeles library system): you still have to check the book back in after 3 weeks, just like any other book. I'm sure it has to do with copyright issues. But, for me, it's starting to be too annoying. Plus oftentimes it's not clear before you download that the audiobook can only be downloaded to computer, not burned to cd or added to a phone. So I go through the effort of downloading for nothing, because I want to listen in my car during my commute, but find out after the fact that I can only listen to it on my computer. For three weeks, then poof, it's gone.

So, I too am about to take the plunge with Audible. I'm excited! I have heard nothing bad about it. At this point it's worth it to me to spend the few dollars I would have paid in library fines to have the book available to me whenever it's convenient to me, not to the library. I'm in!

I have used Overdrive from the library as well on my phone and it has been great. They don't always have the selections that I want, but i can usually find something. But our library titles just expire and you don't have to check them back in, they are just no longer available.

I took the plunge and downloaded my first book through Audible. It was dead easy and I am so happy that I can take as long as I want to finish, no library deadlines! Plus, I checked with Audible and they said even if you discontinue the subscription the books you already have in your Audible library are always available to you! Not that I ever re-read a book but I still like knowing I can if I want!

I seem to cycle through wanting audiobooks and then wanting podcasts and then wanting audiobooks, etc. lol The subscription is a great deal though, and they've always been great. :)

I love my Audible subscription. I listen to podcasts in the morning on my drive in to work and Audible books in the evening on my way home.

My only issue with my Audible membership is that often there are sales (to members only) where the book prices are better than using my credits, so I tend to save my credits. On the other hand, they also have occasional "2 books for 1 credit" or "3 books for 2 credits" deals that make up for it.

I just saw this. If you have Swagbucks you can get 1800 SB and your 1st month for $1 (new subscriptions and limited time).

If you don't have Swagbucks, you should, LOL... earn points for browsing that translated into free stuff (I get Amazon gift cards). I will shamelessly link up my referral link HERE so you can join for free. I've honestly used it for years and have never tried to refer, so that's not my thing... but hey, if you are gonna sign up, you can help a sister, right :giggle

I love Audible! Every day Audible offers a new deal. A book from $1 to $5.95. I also download from the library, but Audible is great!

I have to say I have learned a lot being around here. Had heard of it, but had no clue what it was! (Do I dare to say this???)

I'll definitely look it up to see if it's something for me!

i love audible! Although it feels like cheating, I love to sit at my computer and work while listening to a book!

Speaking of being multifunctoinal, lol! ;-)

this is me too - if u read/listen a lot you kinda need to find a cheap way to do it (esp. if u aren't a pollywog!)
ITA some narrators are almost terrible and that can detract from the story so if u can hear a sample before you buy, i'd recommend that.
i've heard of whispersync but i have a Kobo and it isn't amazon friendly.
Our library's one's just expire too but if ur commuting and listening that much, shouldn't take you long to finish anything - most that i've used seem to be between 6 and 13hrs, i get thru them quicker listening while driving, doing housework and such, than if i sat down and read an hour at nite.
there's also a goodreads group for audiobook-ers https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/596-audiobooks
they sometimes have codes for free audiobooks, haven't used any myself as they weren't titles that interested me but they also share discount notices etc

Wow I joined that audiobook club and am hooked! Who knew there are thousands of us out there listening to books?! The first post i saw was about whether listening to audiobooks is cheating. I love that accusation, I get it from my book club all the time. Really? So if I listen to three books in a month and retain what I learned, compared to you reading one book you instantly forget, I am somehow cheating?! At what? There's a test no one told me about for reading for pleasure?!!! I am going to love that audiobooks club I can tell! Thanks for the link.

So audible just has a 3 month subscription for .95 so I definitely signed up! Not sure I'll keep it after those 3 months but we'll see.
