Hi Art Journallers,

Here is the challenge for the month of November.

1. Grab a white paper ( we will be creating a clean and simple kinda AJ page)
2. Blend a photo to the paper
3. Choose any of the shape tool
- create lines or shapes using shape tools on the page
- you can play around with blending mode and lower the opacity of the shapes/ lines ( you can see my pink lines on the layout - I used multiply blending mode and lower the opacity of it)

4. Of course, you can add splatters, paints, elements and journal on it….
5. Lastly once you have completed your page, flatten it and then go to Filter Gallery - PLAY WITH TEXTURE AND BRUSH STROKES
(ON MY PAGE - I USED TEXTURE - TEXTURIZER AND BRUSH STOKES - CROSS HATCH STROKES).

HERE IS MY PAGE :

CHALLENGE ENDS 11/29 8PM EST.

Have fun everyone.

PLEASE POST COMPLETED LAYOUT HERE AT THIS THREAD AND AJ GALLERY CATEGORY

LOVE the page, I need to play with the texturizer~

Here is mine! I loved the added feature of the filter, I never use those!

oh how I love the effect on the jeans...and so skinny too! ♥ I just played with the BYOc for November and these fun techniques, can't wait to post my page toNIGHT!!!

omg!!! Dalis , I love the texture you used !! I had to look at it a few times.. it's so cool!!

LOL!! Anne!! you look cheeky on the photo!! Love how it looks like a painting kinda page!!!

Thank you so much for playing along with me ladies!!

flatten it

Noooooooo! You're killing me here! I never flatten. Never, ever. Ever. I hid it from my menus. Call me scared of commitment, but what I looooove about Photoshop is you can always go back and change something. Unless you flatten!

If there is anyone else out there like me, you don't have to flatten to run filters! Select all the layers and "Convert for Smart Filters" instead. Then everything stays editable.

I did rough pastels, although it's not as obvious in the web version. :/

You don't have to flatten it .. :) do it however you do it as long as you get the effects

BY THE WAY I LOVE THe ROUGH PASTEL EFFECTS!! Oh I don't flatten all of mine too !!

If you want to flatten but not commit to really flatten it, you can do CMD+ALT+SHFT+E (mac) CTRL+ALT+SHFT+E (pc). This will merge all the visible layers as a copy on top. So you have a flatten image on the top of all the layers, but the layers don't get affected.

Here is mine, what a fun challenge!
I used the accented edges filter...

Sue, I really gotta check out that effect.. I have never used it before!!! I love how it gives a certain texture on your page.. thank you so much for playing along with me

I know it is cheesy, but I had fun,
The shapes are the squiggles, and the filters were , overlay, transparency, water colour, and part of the rose has a reduced fill.
And for the record....NEVER flatten ! Please listen to Lorry, and Dalis I once flattened a page that was part of a wedding scrapbook LO and discovered a spelling mistake afterwards !

If you do it this way, and run filters on the merged one, you have to remember what you did if you end up deleting that later but want the same effect again. If you do as I suggest and Convert for Smart Filters, you just double click on the Smart Object, make changes, and save. The filters are still there. You can also double click on the filter names right there in the layers palette and make adjustments if you change your mind about how the filters are done. Or maybe later you go, "I loved the look I had with that LO, but what did I do??" and you can open the file and just see what you did. Bam.

Filters run on a flattened image just get applied, but don't show up anywhere to remind you what filters you ran, and the effects cannot be edited or undone.

The only reason to merge or flatten anything is if you value file size more than the ability to edit.
