Appliance Woes :( |Pad Patter 2.27

I am going to say it! They don’t make fridges like they used to. I now they are obviously more energy efficient but they tend to break down much more easily in my opinion.

The two machines that wash and dry clothes in our house are almost 20 years old....shhhh! They are Asko and not replaceable because they are no longer made in Sweden or at least for the US market. They are now called 'inspired by Scandinavia'. I call BS. My friend sold me on them and hers are close to 30 years old. When something goes wonky she relies on a trusty nearby repair man. So do we. He says they may outlast us.

When I unload a manual freezer we have, I use a lot of coolers incl the cheap styrofoam ones. Works for us and is great in emergencies. @AnneofAlamo

I replaced my over the stove microwave back in 2006 or 2007. The one it replaced was purchased by my parents in 1983. The stove and refrigerator were purchased before Mom died in 1996 so I'm thinking early 90's. Both still worked when I had my kitchen remodeled in 2016. I chose to get new so all appliances matched. I was having a dishwasher installed... never had one. I thought about keeping the refrigerator in the garage but really didn't need it so I didn't.

I chose not to get an ice maker or water thing on my refrigerator. I don't use them so why pay for them. So mine is a very simple model that I hope will last me a long time.

My washer and dryer are older but still less than 10 years old. When the dryer died in 2010, I found out that it was bought in the early 1970's while I was still in high school! Dad had replaced the early 1970's washer in 1997 and it died in 2015. I have very basic models of both and since they are not used that often, it is my hope they will last a long time. Since I retired, I only do laundry once every 7 to 10 days. When you don't leave the house or get too dirty, clothes can be worn multiple days!!!
