We were finally cleaning up our backyard the other day and in the process of raking up the leaves saw that all the plants were starting to peek out of the ground! The daffodils are up the most, about 1/2 - 1", and all the plants I never got around to cutting back are starting to bud! It's not even January yet. I guess it didn't help that we've been having days near 60 degrees this week.

Has anyone else in a winter zone seeing this, too?

Um, you are warmer than me! That's crazy.
We've had 40 degree days all week. And the wind is biting! I am trying to bring a basil plant back to life and it's struggling.

No, but we had a very warm fall. I think my hydrangea plants will suffer this coming spring because they actually bloomed very late in the fall. I think it will affect their growth/health. Same thing with a few apple trees. I haven't seen any tulips sprout yet, so I'm hoping those are okay.
ETA: last year my tulips were up very early in the winter. I had to cover them because I worried snow or a hard frost would freeze them. I did lose a few. On the bright side, it gave me a chance to purchase about 20 more, which I planted this fall.

I haven't noticed anything coming up, but I haven't really been out there looking either. We can't get a break from the rain! We had a big snow the first week in December (12") but since then it's been upper 40's and 50's and raining. The mud is driving me crazy...I don't even want to let the dog out because he tracks up my house. I wish the sun would stay out for a bit or it would just freeze.

We have a bunch of new snow this morning! 3 1/2 inches since yesterday afternoon. It's beautiful outside. And very cold!! It's supposed to rain this afternoon which means all that snow will turn very icy. Not a good thing. It's nice we don't have to go out in it. So! No new things growing yet here.

Mud is so yucky. And we're expecting more rain on Monday. We've a swamp behind our house caused by the school buildings and it literally hasn't gone away.

Right now I think I'd rather see snow than mud, and I'm not a snow person!

In Belgium it has not snowed yet ... The weather and the temperatures are relatively 'normal' .... sometimes some frost and sun during the day ... other days around 5 ° to 6 ° C and rain. And in my grass, there are still daisies ...

Yes, we have buds on too many things and even the birds are starting to twitter their ...hey, honey, come on an cuddle up! tweets. Poor things if they mate too soon. My friend goes up to upstate NY in the winter to write and he says Lake Erie has not frozen - yet. Other friends who went to Finland early this month never saw the Northern Lights because what should have been snow was rain. God help us...

Me? I am so sick of down pouring rain.
