We just moved into a new house, and we have all kinds of plants in the backyard. I'm sure a lot of them are weeds, lol. The backyard has definitely not been kept up well, so weeds are a definite possibility. But, since I am soooo not a green thumb, I have no clue what any of them are! I was able to identify tulips and rhubarb, and I'm so excited about those! NOw....on to the ones I have no clue about....

It's a bit tricky with one pic, but here are my best guesses.

1. Looks like cilantro. Break some off and smell it - you'll know. LOL
3. Some kind of bluebell
4. Possibly early peony
8. Is it really soft? Might be lambs ear.

OOoh thanks Laura! It is cold and dark now, but I'll go check in the morning to see if that one is soft and to smell and see if that is cilantro. I'll be excited if that is correct :)

I have no idea. If my thumb could get any blacker, it would probably fall right off ;) Good luck identifying!

I think(!!) 1 & 3 are weeds, but 3 is pretty and I would keep it to fill up space! haha...As for the 1st one, it think it has an major smell. We only have a garden for 1,5 yrs now, but my mom knows a lot and thought me most of it :) I don't know any of the names though, cause I'm dutch...it's already hard in dutch, so would def. suck at translating!! haha

1. looks like a perennial geranium and they can be scented pretty heavy. I'd wait and see if it flowers.

4.and5. Peonies or my bleeding heart looks like that at the beginning of the season before it fills out.

Good luck! I have a huge perennial garden I need to rework this year. I let it totally go and it's full of weeds.

1. looks like a perennial geranium - they can self-seed but are quite beautiful.
5. looks like a Peonie
7. almost looks like basil - crushing the leaves should give you the tell-tale scent
8/9. looks like a perennial, just can't think of the name right now - spring bloomer with lots of little flowers

Do you know what climate zone you are? That might help narrow some of them down.

Our last house was zone 6a and I had a gorgeous perennial garden. Now I'm zone 3 and nothing but weeds grow in my backyard! :(

Thanks ladies! You girls are awesome :)

I have a black thumb too, but I'm just attempting to green it up a bit this year now that I actually have a pretty yard. Now that you said it Heather, I think 7 could be basil too. We are in zone 4 - North Iowa. :)
