As some of you know, I have to have my gallbladder removed soon. When I expressed my concern of being so young to have it removed, my surgeon told me that he is performing the surgery on people younger and younger. He has removed the gallbladders of 10 year olds! I was shocked!! When I asked him the cause, he told me it was the additives in our food. That wasn't a shocker, but it was a wake up call. I make sure that my family eats healthy, or so I thought we were eating healthy. I buy organic whenever I can, I limit our sweets and processed foods, but I realize that I haven't been doing enough to eliminate those awful chemicals that we've been consuming. I've looked into "clean-eating" but there is so much out there on the subject I feel overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Are any of you clean eaters? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

I have a cookbook by Tosca Reno for clean eating that I have used. She lays out the plan pretty well in one of her other books & I got this one too because I can't come up with any recipes on my own which made the plan pretty boring. I haven't checked in a while but I think she had a website with info too.

I eat mostly vegetarian so her plan doesn't work well for me but on & off I have tried it.

Yes, Tosca Reno has a book that I got a few years back - it's very informative. To be honest, it's a little too restrictive for me but I want to live somewhere in the middle. Right now, not doing such a good job. LOL

I've heard of it, but I've never tried it.

Just wanted to tell you though that DH had his gallbladder (and half his liver) removed a year and a half ago and he hasn't had any digestive problems.

I agree about the restrictiveness and the whole lots of small measured out meals just doesn't work for where I am in my life right now. I barely get lunch packed for my son & a frozen meal for myself before we get out the door most mornings. But I did learn from reading her stuff & the less processed food is always better which is why I liked her cookbook. I could make the meals if I wanted to but usually did it without 100% following the plan.

I don't know anything about it. With all of my son's food allergies we eat very restrictive already. I just wanted to say I had my gallbladder out at 19.

I am looking at gall bladder surgery as well. I am currently putting it off...and hoping that major diet changes will help. I am not eating 100% clean, but just eating a less process foods, lots of veggies and fruits, etc.

I had my gallbladder out just after I turned 30. I've never been a big junk food/processed food eater, but I'm always looking for ways to make it easier and have the ability to make it more appealing to DH.

Ck out this blog, I love her and her whole philosophy...

This is fantastic, Lauren!! Thanks for the link. :) Her recipes look delicious! I'll definitely be following her! I also found Maria, via This Lunch Rox. I think I may try her counseling services and then combine two.

And Jenny. I'm 31. I truly thought that I was doing okay with our eating, but this is just a wake-up call for me that I need to clean up our eating even more!

It's something I've wanted to do for a while, but have put it off because I think I'll have a really hard time giving up ALL sugar and processed foods...but, if it means better health for my family, I can, and will do it! Luckily, my kids love their fruits and veggies, and I've been very careful not to give them sugary drinks and snacks, so I don't think it will be that hard for them. :)
