So in all of my life I have never gone to an antique shop a single time... until today.

Now I'm hooked.

I found a perfect picture to hang in my eat-in kitchenette area. and about 10million other things that I added to my mental wish list. If only DH saw the necesity for old metal painted tables and cabinets and retro dressers and blah blah blah. somehow, though i think it would all be lost on him. *sigh*

*waves* Hi, I'm Laura and I'm an antique shop & flea market addict.

Welcome to the club, Rebecca! :) I used to go to Friday night antique auctions with my Dad when I was a kid. I still love to wander around antique shops and flea markets. Lots of inspiration and eye candy! My husband actually teases me that when we retire, I can open my own little shop, which he has already dubbed "Laura's Trash & Treasures"... hmmm not quite what i would pick! :giggle

omg when i lived in Cali i used to go almost EVERY Sunday at 5 in the morning to hit the flea markets! The Rose Bowl one was one of my FAV FAV FAV! So much amazing things to just drool over! I have yet to find one here in CO...

you will become addicted, yep for sure
my best friend and I call it, Junk'n
she'll call me, or I'll call her, and all we have to hear is... "ya wanna go junk'n today?"
we're out the door as soon as we hang up the phone

I think my most treasured "find" is a complete bedroom suite made from White Chestnut wood, probably 1950s for $125
it's in my guest room, and everyone loves it

and don't forget to "haggle" lol
they love that, and will always give you a better deal

have fun with all your newly found treasures!

the haggling is good to know. will keep that in mind.
you know, there's just a way different feel to the stuff in the antique shop. makes your every-day new-stuff stores look boring in comparison!

OK - I want pictures of all your cool finds!!! I went to a few last summer and this is a set of vases I had found. I also found some old red shutters that will be hung as wall art in my basement (if we ever get it finished!)

(excuse the photo - I took it very quick and it's a little blurry) So these sit up on my cupboards. The three vases were in a "set" and cost me all of $11! They are beautiful textured glass!

I love antiques too! We have a zillion antique places just south of us because it's a super touristy area along Lake Michigan where all the Chicago people come to visit their summer homes (aka mansions that normal people can't afford). Anyway, there are so many antique places that we have antique malls! :) The only problem is that they are rather highly priced to cater to the Chicago crowd. You have to really dig to get that "great find"

Its been awhile since I went to a antique shop/swap meet. I havent even been to a yard sale in a couple of years. I bought a kitchen cabinet for $100.00 it was all wood, no particle board. That is the best deal I made! Didnt have a dent/scratch. Just a little dust. I really need to go do that again.
I remember about maybe 17 years ago, when my kids were little, we went to a antique shop. I found the cutest little saucer. It was a leaf shape and the color was like fall color. I still have it! I just wonder how the cup look like?!? But I love looking for anything unique!!
I even look for cast iron skillets. Even tiny little trinkets. :)
Now I wanna go hunting ;)

i am planning on getthing my pictures hung today. if i do, i'll snap a picture so you can see them... or maybe i'll snap one before i hang them... :)

okay, not the best picture... i just uploaded straight from my phone, so no editing to fix shadows, etc... but here's the picture & the word art tin plates i got the other day.

i still have to get some better stuff to fill in on the shelf around it, but for now this is what i had handy. better than an empty shelf i guess. :)

the shelf was actually made by my husband's grandfather. and he used oak wood panels that were taken from HIS father's wood shop when they tore the building down. that is some OLD wood.

and yes, i will eventually add a bunch of stuff to it... gotta find the right stuff first!
