Another seizure

Hugs and prayers being sent to you. It's so hard to watch a little one go through something like this!

Sending you lots of love from the other side of the ocean. Can only imagine how your heart is feeling.

So sorry to hear this. Big hugs! I hope they can get to the bottom of what is causing this. Poor little thing...

oh @JillW I'm so sorry to hear that poor Harper had another one!! My 20 year old had one (febrile) when he was 11 months old and for the next several years, I did the combo Motril/Tylenol so it would never spike. It's so scary!

When my 17 year old was in 3rd grade, she started having grand mal seizures at night. We did the whole neurology deal with MRI and EEGs. She was placed on a great anti seizure medicine and seems to have outgrown it. Her EEG at age 15 showed that the abnormally was gone. And by then weaned her off the meds.

It will be interesting to see what the doctors say. Back 9-19 years ago, we were told that febrile and epileptic seizures were completely different. Febrile would fix itself as they aged. Never settling to be told by doctors to just not worry about it. For my daughter, the neurologist said that they give you one "freebie" before they look at medication or dig too deep. They still did all the tests for me after her first seizure. (Only because when it happened she had no fever at all and her blood sugar levels were fine. Also, I was practically crying and said I wouldn't leave the emergency room until they could tell me why my healthy daughter was having a major seizure. So there's that too.) Then she had a second seizure about 2 months later and we got right back in with a follow up EEG to compare to the first and then immediately went on the medication.

Prayers that there is nothing serious going on and that the doctors are responsive to all your concerns and worries!! <3 Ughhhhhh!!! I'm so sorry!!!! **Hugs**

I'm so sorry, Jill. I'm sending up good thoughts that this can be figured out, and quickly!

I really hope they decide to do a 24 hour EEG @fruitysuet ...I don't want to say too much and be the grandparent that sticks her nose in their business ... however; I did mention it last night when I talked to my son. DIL's mom is a nurse so I would hope she would do some "strong suggesting" to them as well - if nothing else for piece of mind.

Suzanne, was your DD suffer from epilepsy?

Yes she does. Diagnosed age 8, she is almost 16 now. The EEG activity has cleared considerably but she remains classed as having 'moderate' learning difficulties. She has remained in mainstream school with a statement of special needs (similar to IEP in the US) but struggles with education and is unlikely to pass exams this year. She has a rare form:

Our son called and said they think Harper might have a UTI, took a urine specimen - will know for sure Monday. She was pretty dehydrated, but the doctor still doesn't seem alarmed (I guess that's what gramma's are for!!)

I will continue to pray that there will be no more!!!

Lots of prayers for your little Harper. There's nothing worse than having something 'wrong' and no one really knowing what it is or how it can resolve. Good luck with that fine line between 'not sticking your nose in' and being a caring Grandma!

Sending positive thoughts your way. That is so terrifying!! Hopefully the Dr.'s can figure out what is causing them and hopefully get her some help.

*Update*
They received confirmation back that Harper does have a UTI and possibly a blocked urethra. She will have tests done in 10 days ... not sure what all they entail other than catheterization at this point. I think the doctor is thinking the flair ups are what is causing her to spike high fevers - thus the seizures. If that is the case, hopefully no permanent damage has been done to the kidney.

Today is day 5 and she is still not feeling 100% - can't seem to shake the low grade fever. Hopefully tomorrow will be the start of feeling better for her!

Poor thing! I hope she starts feeling better & the UTI/fevers were the cause of the seizures. How scary for everyone. Unknowns are the hardest.

@JillW I'm glad they *may* have a reason for the fever and subsequent seizures. Hopefully it's a quick fix re the blocked urethra. HUGS!
