  • 1805 Lewis and Clark sight Pacific Ocean
On this date, November 7th. They see the Pacific for their first time!

I love the ocean, I adore the Pacific.
I have lived on many sides of it. In California, on the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and then on the east coast of Japan (Misawa).

I now live in a completely landlocked state in the United States, but ONCe a year we travel 13 hours to stay as close to the beach as possible. San Diego.

Everyday, we go to the beach. I can sit for HOURS, I mean 8 to 10 hours.
Pacific means peace....and I totally get that!

So have you seen the Pacific or an Ocean??...tell me about it!

I'm a shore girl, and grew up with the beach and bays close by. (Atlantic) Now, I'm even closer, about 15/20 minutes away. Plus, we have a beach house that we go to a lot year round, but even more in the summer. Right now, my kids get bored unless they have friends at the beach. Soon enough, they will be bringing friends, heading to the boardwalk, and I be on the beach reading my book. Or, if one became a lifeguard, I would love that too!

My favorite moments are catching the sunset on the bay when it's calm, like glass. A happy moment for me, always. I could seriously take pictures of sunsets every day. I love the sounds of the ocean - waves crashing, sea gulls, and the hum of people chatting in the summer. The winter is absolutely the best though... no people, and just gorgeous!

We live about 3 hours from the Atlantic and about 4 hours from the Gulf of Mexico. We usually go 2-3 times a year, to the Atlantic for day trip (to look for sharks teeth) and for a week to camper camp at the Gulf.

I've seen the Pacific (via Mexico) and the Atlantic (via Florida and the East Coast as well as the British Isles) and the Gulf of Mexico (via TX and Mexico).

But, for me, nothing beats Lake Michigan on a summer day. The Great Lakes are so large that they "feel" like oceans because you can't see the other coast, and if you turn your head from side-to-side, you see simply water and beach. And when you live somewhere that you can't really go to the beach 7 months out of the year, then you learn to appreciate those sunny beach days! (My kids have never visited the beach here in our Atlantic-ocean-bordering state, but they've been to Lake Michigan many times lol!) But I think that feeling of calm/happiness/"beachiness" is what matters, wherever you find it.

We drove from Las Vegas to the Pacific Ocean (not sure what city) on a day trip. That was my only trip to the Pacific and honestly I was not impressed. It seemed dirty to me.

We also have vacationed at Gulf Shores AL which is on the Gulf of Mexico. The beach was beautiful but there was tons of jellyfish so getting in the water was tricky. We also had some severe sand storms so our beach days was limited.

We have also vacationed at both Myrtle Beach SC and Virginia Beach VA. I am not a big sit on the beach girl so even though we visited the beach we did more sight seeing away from the beach.

We plan on doing a big family vacation (6 adults and 8 children) in 2019 at the Outer Banks NC. We have a beach house so maybe this will be the vacation where I set on the beach for an extended time.

I've seen the Pacific and Atlantic and enjoyed them so much!! I could sit on the beach for hours as well, but my hubs not so much. BUT, I enjoy it VERY much when we do go! My best friend just moved to Gulf Shores, AL... so, now, I have the perfect girls trip/beach place! Woot!

Only from afar when we went to Disney when I was a teen.

But living in Michigan getting to see Lake Michigan is beautiful.

We live about 2 to 3 hours from the Atlantic Ocean. My hubby is not a big fan but I love it. We usually go at least once a year to one of the beaches between the Outer Banks of NC to Myrtle Beach, SC. There are a few places where you can get a sunset on the ocean, but since it is the east, you have to get up for the sunrise. So pretty.

I have seen the Pacific a few times: San Francisco, Pebble Beach, Seattle, and the cruise to Alaska. Haven't ever really sat on the beach at the Pacific.

I've seen both oceans. The Pacific as a kid when my parents took me there on a family trip. I've been back several times since then. I saw the Atlantic for the first time when I was in college in Boston, MA.

We mostly vacation in the Gulf of Mexico and I have lived in Florida so I am familiar with the Atlantic Ocean but I am so excited because next year in June I will get to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time. My oldest graduates high school in May 2019 and her, myself, and my mom are flying to Hawaii to celebrate and I plan to sit and soak in the ocean as much as she will allow. I love seeing new things!!

Yes, I've seen both. I cruised for a short time on the Pacific after leaving the Inside Passage heading north in Alaska. I was so excited to see it and I even saw a sea turtle swimming around.

When I was growing up, the beach of choice for our family was Myrtle Beach, SC. We loved it there and then kept going back when I married and had my own family. But my husband grew up on the west coast of Florida so we began to go the Gulf Beaches more often than the Atlantic Ocean. For us, nothing compares to Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, FL.

I grew up in Southern California and thought I would never live away from the sea. My mom loved the beach so she would bring us there as often as she could. We kids would spend almost all our time in the water. I loved it so!

Then I moved to Wisconsin where people called the strip of dirt next to a lake a beach (sorry - no offence meant!).

Now I live near the Atlantic. I can't get over that the water is WARM, not the chilling cold of the Atlantic. The only thing that bothers me is that you don't run to the beach to escape the heat like we did in Calif.; it's just as hot and muggy along the shore as it is in town so we don't go.

I have had the privilege of visiting the Baltic, North and Norwegian Seas while in Scandinavia.

Growing up in Ontario, I spent a lot of time on the water. I didn't see the ocean until I was an adult and traveled to the west coast. But as a kid, camping along the lakes/rivers in Ontario and Michigan/Ohio were pretty awesome. As a young adult, lots of friends had boats/yachts and we spent a lot of time on the water, having parties, parasailing, waterskiing, tubing, etc. Sailing, canoeing and rafting were fun activities. When I moved to BC I missed all the water sports and parties. Now I live in BC and don't know anyone with a boat. I have lots of memories of my younger years on the water and when it comes to mind it always makes me smile.

I have seen the Pacific once. It was 2004, maybe?

I have seen the Atlantic at least once -- when I went to visit a friend in Jacksonville, FL in 2006.

I have seen the Gulf of Mexico several times as my grandparents used to live in Port Charlotte, FL. I may or may not have seen the Atlantic a few times when we went to visit them when I was growing up but I'm not 100% sure.

Both of my kids, especially my daughter, love going to the beach (we do lakes around here in the Midwest) so it is on the bucket list to take them to see an ocean someday soon.

When I think about it, I have seen the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean, go me!
Pacific Ocean - travelled up the coast from San Diego to Vancouver
Atlantic Ocean - Boston and Cape Cod, and I did some whale watching somewhere near there too
And I saw it from the other side too, on the Canary Islands and in Cadiz, Spain
Indian Ocean - Maldives and Sri Lanka

Do I love the sea, YES, but my favourite beach is in Wales (Southerndown Beach/Dunraven Bay) not sure what that bit of the Atlantic is called, might be Bristol channel or something similar.

We live a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and my oldest DD lives on the Atlantic Ocean side of Florida, so yes to both of those. I've seen the Pacific Ocean several times, too. Oh, Jan @IntenseMagic just reminded me that I've been to the Caribbean, too.

I love the ocean more than anything and it will be my home some day *hurry up retirement*. I have always lived within 6 or 7 hours of the Atlantic which makes for a fairly easy trip, but I want to be right there all the time! So yes, I've been to the Atlantic more times than I can count. I've seen the Pacific once and have been to Acapulco Bay. I've also been to the Gulf of Mexico.

I have seen the Pacific about 20 years ago but I grew up 15-20 mins from the Atlantic. I miss the smell the most, hubby loves the sound. The sound stresses me out but the smell just makes me breathe deep.
