NM - I finally figured it out. I was right. 64 cars.

So, I haven't taken Algebra since 1978 and Michael hasn't since 1976 and we are stumped. The answer key says one thing, and Melissa was marked wrong on her test for it.

The ratio of cars to semis is 8:3. If there were 24 semis at the rest stop, how many cars were there?

We have three different answers, and none match the answer key. Help!

yup... if there are 24 semis and the ratio is 8 cars to 3 semis, 24 semis divided by 3 = 8 x 8 cars = 64 cars :)

I loved Algebra.. it was my favorite.. I tutored so many of my friends in it.

LOL ... I gotta be worst. Even though Christa explained how to do it, I don't get it. Math is the worst.

I love math -- just a nerd who married a nerd who has two nerd sons - but one daughter who can not math. She might have gotten this one right since it is using ratios and cross products. Yes, 64 is the correct answer.

Yep, 64 is the correct answer. She maybe got it marked wrong for not showing work or something like that? My son refuses to show his work in math and frequently gets points taken off for that even if he gets the correct answer. It makes him so mad and it makes me incredibly mad that he won't just write down his work. Argh! Ha ha!
