Does anyone have a small air compressor for home use? If so, what do you have?

I'm scanning in tons of slides and negatives which all need to get dusted. I'm figuring it will get pricey purchasing canned air, so why not purchase one instead. Thanks!

What about a lint-free cloth, like the really nice ones for dusting TVs? Or something for eyeglasses? Cheaper than air and a LOT cheaper than an air compressor. We have one cuz we needed it for building our fence. Now IDK why it's in our garage. ;) But yeah, that thing is powerful. Using it inside for any reason besides for construction seems scary to me.

We used to use one to dust off the slides when I worked for the media studio. It was rather large, but it worked quite well. You could change the pressure of the air coming out, so it wasn't bad at all. I have a sinking feeling that the type that could do that would be one of the expensive ones, so I just may have to stick with the cans! And there's a LOT of dust. A lot. I really don't like editing it all out, but I will. I hate seeing dust on the images. I'm so picky!

Do you have anyone to that could help you have a film cleaning party??? Buy everyone an antistatic negative brushes??

I think the variable speed air compressors are pretty costly :(

Yes, they are. Very expensive. eek! I'm just doing them a little bit at a time. Otherwise I'll forget about life and want to do them all at once. It would be fun, but I don't think my family would appreciate my absence. But I do like your idea of a film cleaning party if and when I want to devote a day to it. Maybe this summer! Thanks for the idea.

I love our air compressor. I just don't know if it gets low enough for slides?
We use it to pump up balls, and bike tires, and for a nail gun.

@QuiltyMom I wonder if Home Depot, Lowes or other hardware store has a variable speed compressor you could rent? Or maybe even an airbrush tool, I don't there's too much pressure behind one of those but I could be wrong.

i thought they were for like mechanical outdoor, builder type use?? they'd blow a hole right thru old photos surely?! i'd go lint free cloth personally too (or one of those glass cleaning cloths for flat glass scanners)
