I am going to show you how to adjust character and paragraph settings to make blocks of text fit lines on a journal card or other lines. For this technique you will need to use the Layout or Typography Studio. I'm going to show you how to do this in the Layout Studio.

The Pocket Card used in this part of the tutorial is from Still Burning by Creative Retreat. The font used is Arial.

1. Create your text in a text box on the layer above the journal card
2. Arrange the text so the top line of text is on the top line you want to use on your journaling card

We are going to use adjust the character and paragraph settings of the text to change the line spacing to match the lines on the card.

Adjusting the line spacing using the Character Panel

The character line spacing adjusts the spacing between lines of flowing text where text is on multiple lines but you have not put a line end (in the old type writer days we would call it the return key). For example the text on my card "this is the example text for a tutorial on lining text up with the lines on this card."

1. With the text box selected open the Character tab on panel where the layers panel is.

2. Adjust the spacing by using the up and down arrows for the "Leading Override" - see the above image.

Adjusting the line spacing using the Paragraph Panel

The paragraph line spacing adjusts the spacing between paragraphs - or lines of text where we did hit that "return key". For example I have two paragraphs of text on my card.

1. With the text box selected open the Paragraph tab on panel where the layers panel is.
2. Adjust the spacing by using the up and down arrows for the "Space After" - see the image below

3. Alternatively if you want to remove the extra line in between the paragraphs, then check the "Space between same styles" box and set it to 0.
