So for our 2014 project life 'the story of us'...I'm still stuck with week 2, since I'm bedating about the journalling. I've been writing the journalling TO our 3yr old. Kind of a habit, since I also keep a written journal for her... But in 7 weeks our baby girl will be here and have no clue if I want all the journalling to be more basic...or keep it like it is and write to both of them...

So what would you do...Or how do you do it?? I'm kind of a writer and really want to write a little less then last year...but how, is the big question?!

when i write to my kids, i always chose the voice that will withstand time... so I write to them as though they are reading it when they are a bit older.... kind of like, if i were no longer here to tell them what i'm thinking / feeling, what would i want them to always know.

not sure if that helps any

I tend to adopt a narrative voice. More like a "Hey mom, guess what we did this week?" tone, and journaling. Although it may change within the year, as some get more touchy feely, and I have had my spouse do a card or two during the year, so that's a different voice.

Probably doesn't help at all, but although I hope he enjoys it, I don't look at PL as to my son. I look at it more as a record of my life, and something I will (hopefully) enjoy looking through and remembering when I'm old and lonely and forgetful.

I'm completely inconsistent. I switch back and forth, but the majority of the time my journaling is what I would right if it was in my diary or journal. So... "today we went skiing. The weather was great and we all had a blast" Etc. :) But sometimes when I'm doing a page about something one of my boys did I will write it more to that one kid.

I usually write in second person ('you') for all my journaling, regular or PL, but occasionally I write in third person if there are a lot of people in the photo/story.

Yeah I always write to her like...'today you wanted to cut papers' or something like that. I think I'm going to stick with this and will also do this to our baby girl in the future and if it's something we all did...I guess I'll figure it out! hehe

How sweet, Petra. I have 4 kids so everything is in 3rd person for my journaling. Joe did this. Jake did that. Etc... o/w it would get pretty confusing.

I do, however, sometimes write TO them in my regular pages if it's about one of them in particular.

On the layouts that are about one of my kids, I talk to them using the "you" point of view. Pretty much everything else is first person, using "I". Because the PL is kind of ours, I still use "I" but refer to each of them by name. I will occasionally journal from their point of view if I ask them specifically what to say.

I tend to mix it up and totally not consistent... but I've never really thought about it... a lot of times it's "we did this, or we did that..." but sometimes it's directly to that person and I usually write to them but somehow incorporate their name, so that years down the road it's obvious who I'm talking to... like when Isaac had his surgery, I'll write something like, "I'm so proud of you, Isaac..."

I am starting to think about this too. Right now I always write to my daughter on the pages just about her but for project life I use our names or as if I am the one speaking to our family. It is interesting to see how everyone does their journaling... I confuse myself all the time and will re-write.
