Welcome to the Rachel Jefferies May Designer Challenge!
First, to all the Moms, Grandmothers and Aunties, Happy Mother’s Day! Mother’s Day is a celebration of the most important job out there…motherhood! And, let us not forget the maternal bonds we have with one another and within our communities. Thank you for being the nurturing, giving souls that you are!
Second, congratulations to the April $10 Challenge winner: @flowersgal
And, to the $6 winner: @CharlotteM
Congratulations!
May's Challenge: Inspired by Textile Arts
This month’s Mixed Media challenge is an inspiration challenge! Take in the inspiration board below. Observe the colors, patterns and textures. How can you work an element from the textile art into your own creation? Perhaps you are inspired by the quote on the dress, “To be alive is power.” Perhaps you can use thread to form a fence in your layout? Maybe you would like to use a cut-out on your layout, then apply thread in an interesting pattern over it? Or, maybe you would like to use thread on your photo to outline or color in a flower, tree or stream? The thread can be used to simulate rain too (or sunshine and sun rays). Maybe you are inspired by the patterns of thread and stitching and would like to have some on your layout. Maybe it’s not thread at all that inspires you but lace or denim? Maybe you are inspired by the colors in a particular photo, or a shape or pattern (that red X stands outs)? You could make a grid then place some objects in it. Perhaps you are intrigued by the ethereal figures from the photo in the upper right corner? I could go on and on…there are so many ways to be inspired by textile arts!
The challenge requirements:
Stitched Mixed Media Stacks 1
Pocket Art: Stash Builders 2
Messy Machine Stitches 4 (Rachel has four different sets!)
And here is inspiration from the Captivating Sistas!
From @ajm Inspired by: the photo, the colours, the flowers & leaves and all the paint splatters.
From @mcurtt Marilyn painted down the curtain with lace and added extra valance curtains.
And one from me, I was inspired by the cutout and threads and wanted to simulate that look.

Happy creating!

The challenge requirements:
- Create a layout inspired by textile arts provided in the inspiration board. In this thread you MUST describe how you were inspired and what you created due to that inspiration.
- Your layout must use 100% Rachel Jefferies Designs currently available in the TLP store (collaborations, including Rachel’s Mixed Media Monthly and Add-Ons count). A few elements from Rachel’s retired products are permissible but should account for less than 10% of your layout.
- Upload your layout to Rachel Jefferies Designs Gallery at TLP.
- For your challenge entry to be counted, you MUST reply to this tread with your finished layout. Please link your thread layout to your gallery. Entries are due no later than 31 May 2020.
- NO double-dipping with other challenges. This must be a new layout created for this challenge.
- New Release Bonus Entry! If you use one of Rachel’s products released in May 2020 (a new release, M3, BYOC and even SOSN released in May 2020 count) you will get a bonus entry for a chance to win the $6 coupon (should you not be the $10 winner). Please let me know if you are eligible for the $6 entry by stating “New Release Bonus Entry” when you post in the forum.
- Eligible entries will be chosen at random and announced in June. Good luck and may inspiration find you!
