I just spent the morning making Puppy Chow and filling 18 jars for co-workers and Chance's teachers. I had big plans of doing the whole Sharpie painting on them with some cute expression, but that just didn't pan out the way I wanted it to. So, I ended up just tying the top with twine and a ribbon, and adding a cute tag. I'll get a photo of them later, when I decide to get up again lol. I do something handmade or homemade every year for my co-workers and sometimes for others, depending on time. Some of the things I have made in the past are:

Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Arm Knit Scarves
Wooden Snowmen
Soap dispensers (mine had a different insert)
Paint Stick ornaments

I wish I could get myself to the point where I started earlier. I always end up in a crunch trying to do it last minute. I really need to start a holiday plan in the summer!

Is anyone else doing something homemade or handmade for gifts this year?? I'd love to see!
 
God, no! Even the thought of making something handmade for people is too much for me.

BUT, I had never heard of puppy chow and now I have. Looked up the recipe and put it on my list to make. It sounds super delicious. And the blog itself is now on my feedly. Thanks!!!
 
My family Christmas party was last Saturday and most make homemade gift for the exchange. It is a game where you can steal too so makes it extra fun. I made a quilted Christmas wall hanging.

I tend to make things through the year. So whenever I do a big project, I use leftover materials to make small gifts with. I need to do something with my hands, so I do small hand sewing projects when out and about. I have a box filled with handmade mini note books, little bags, lavender cushions, aprons and small pictures etc. I can dive into it anytime I need a gift.
The children tend to do a gift making stint in the lead up to the end of the Christmas term, and the school year for Teachers etc. These are the favourites:
  • hand painted pencil cases or shopping bags
  • fancy bookmarks
  • decorated or homemade candles (my son always does this)
  • decorated notebooks and diaries bought from the pound shop
  • small canvas art
A couple of years ago the children painted silk hankies scarf and ties. That was fun, and I had some paints left over from decades ago when I tried silk painting out.
My youngest has taken to sewing this past year, so she's just made little bags for Christmas.
 
And I was thinking - great I need some ideas for gifts for all my dog lover friends. Guessed when the ingredients stated chocolate that this was for humans. Oh well.....
 
We cook! Fill pretty boxes with homemade goodies! I love the time in the kitchen with the kids, listening to Christmas music and flour everywhere. Okay, the flour everywhere sucks..but it is fun.
 
Much like you, I stall and procrastinate until the absolute last minute...I guess I work better under pressure LOL! This year I only made my mom twigs in vases for her Christmas tree. Maybe I'll do something for the New Years?

@Jan your stars are so cute! Have you ever made one of the crochet or knitted Christmas trees that look like the vintage ceramic trees with the plastic lights?
 
I used to make peach jam for the teachers. A farmer at the Farmer's Market would give me the seconds for free since I was making it for teachers. One year I knit everyone in my family a sweater (that was an insane year!). I've been making my nephews Christmas quilts, but I won't have the chance to get my son's done before Christmas. I love to make gifts, but the past years it's been too difficult to find the time for it. Maybe when the kids are both out of the house.
 
Thank you Angela and Timmi. No, I've never made a Christmas tree like that. I've made lots of afghans though. And little cradle purses for my granddaughters. I'm working on a cardigan for my daughter right now. We'll see if I can get it finished up and have it look good!
