Trick or Treating... My youngest is 11 and in 6th grade. She is going trick or treating in the neighborhood with her friends again this year. Usually my husband or I tag along and just wait on the sidewalk while the kids go up to the door. Sometimes one of my older kids goes along as their chaperone. I absolutely loved trick or treating as a kid and am glad that we live in a safe neighborhood where my kids can go trick or treating and enjoy the fun of Halloween.

Our church is also doing a trunk or treat earlier in the evening on Halloween, so the kids will end up with loads of candy. I always buy 2 HUGE bags of candy. One for the trunk or treat and one for the trick or treaters at my house. When the candy runs out or it gets too late, I just turn off the lights and we either go watch a movie downstairs or go to bed. This year I found some glow stick necklaces for a great deal so I'm going to give those out at the trunk or treat so the kids can wear them trick or treating and been seen easier.

How about you... does your family like to trick or treat? Do you go with the kids, stay at home to hand out treats, or hide out and try to avoid the trick or treaters... hehe!

I love taking the girls trick or treating! I love seeing all the different costumes and Halloween decorations!! We're in a new section of the neighborhood and I don't know how active it is here so we got a couple bags of candy and will leave a note to please take one. It doesn't seem like there are as many kids over there and definitely not as many houses decorated, so we'll see.

Hubby took the girls to the the fall festival at my daughters school this year vs one of the trunk-or-treats and they liked that better so we'll probably do that again next year.

My youngest (he's 11) really wanted to go trick-or-treating this year. He goes every year. But his football team is in the city championships on Saturday and the team scheduled a practice for Tuesday from 5:30pm - 8pm. So by the time he gets back from that, most of the houses will have their lights off already.

I've got 3 different bags of candy and will hand those out until it gets late or we run out.

This is the first year that neither of my kids are interested in Halloween and it makes me sad. They haven't trick or treated for a couple years now, but my daughter and her friends usually hung out here, carving pumpkins and handing out candy. This year, that might still happen but we won't know until tomorrow after school (they're really big on last minute plans this year for some reason... makes me nuts).

To console myself, I bought full sized candy bars to hand out. :-)

I love Halloween, always have, but... I have trick-or-treated this neighborhood for 27 straight years! I'm ready to sit home and pass out candy! My daughter is bringing her little boy and my son and his girlfriend are bringing her little girl here to trick-or-treat, but I think I will greet them, hand them some candy, and tell them I'll see them when they are done LOL. My 12 year old doesn't want to trick-or-treat this year, but he wants to put on a mask and just wander the neighborhood so I may just send him along with the rest. I think I've pulled my time haha.

Well since all our 'children' are adults, we don't go out obviously! I'd say it's been about 10 years since we had children come to our door so we (WISELY) don't even buy any candy. Most of our street is senior citizens or single women so lights are out and it's movie time.

I however, will be doing the wretched prep for a Nov 1 colonoscopy. If only I could be sitting eating chocolate...

We have never had kids and we live out in the middle of nowhere. Not really, but the driveway is pretty long and the nearest house is about 300-400 feet away. So unless someone goes out of the way, we don't get any trick or treaters. We have lived here since 1993 and have never had any yet. But that doesn't stop us from buying a bag of candy or two. You can never be too sure...

@HeatherB Did they forget it's was Halloween?!!? I bet a lot of kids are a little disappointed.
Most of the boys are 13-14 years old and so they are probably not that disappointed. I was surprised how well my guy took it though, he had to cancel plans to go around the neighbourhood with a friend, since we just found out on the weekend (they won the semi-finals on Saturday).

I might leave a note to take just one and go out for a while too. We'll see how I feel after the 6th grade class party. I'm letting them make slime and then we're having cupcakes and vampire drinks while playing bingo.

I hate it when coaches call practices at the last minute and over holidays or school breaks. Don't they know that all kids LOVE candy and even teenagers love going out on Halloween and get in on the free candy action. I know my kids did or at least wanted to hang out with friends. My son and his friends would hide in the yard and try to scare the trick or treaters ... hehe I was happy to let them do it so I knew where they were and what they were up too.

Full-size candybars! You're the house on the street every kid wants to go too.

What is it with teens and last minute plans. Even my tween 11 is starting to do that. In fact, she and her friends showed up this afternoon and wanted to carve pumpkins. Thank goodness, I had some that needed carving.

I won't judge you for buying candy even though you don't have kids or get trick or treaters. I always buy some bags of our favs just for us... hehe!

My 15 yr old daughter is the only one left at home. She usually goes out, but this year she is going to her friend's house in another town. DD is going to Lilo and friend is Stitch. She is sleeping over and I will pick her up Weds morning (advantage of homeschooling). So I guess I get candy duty, although hubby said he would be home from work early so he can man the candy bowl until I get back.

Some times we open the windows and put on the Halloween CD we own. We have natural decorations -- i.e. the spiders have been busy this summer. I don't think the pumpkin is getting carved unless she does it tomorrow afternoon. Guess she forgot about it.

College boy got a plastic pumpkin basket, cut it half, cut out the eyes and made himself a "mask" to wear to his college classes tomorrow.

We have been out of town for the past couple of years, so we are really excited to trick-or-treat in our neighborhood this year. Our neighborhood is huge-- 181 streets-- and many of the houses go all out. It is truly a ton of fun! My daughter is going out with two of her friends (and us parents, of course) and afterwards they're going to dump the candy and swap what they don't like with each other. Raileigh is going as Mrs. Potts... which is actually what she was last year, but she loved it so much, she wanted to be that again!

I'll be passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. My kids are both adults and there's no grandchildren yet. I'll be enjoying the little ones who come to our door.

We go over to a friends house with 3-4 families and let all of our kids trick-or-treat together in their neighborhood. My oldest is 13 and was supposed to have basketball practice tonight, but we are skipping so he can be a kid. :) He usually only wants to trick or treat for about 30-45 minutes anyway and then just wants to go back to the house and play with his friends.

I love that they still want to dress up and go trick-or-treating, but I'm also looking forward to staying at our house to hand out candy again. I love seeing the excited little kids in costume. :) I don't however miss getting irritated with how many kids just walk up with their bag open and even say "trick-or-treat" OR say thank you. I DRILL it into my kids to always say thank you. You're getting free candy for heaven's sake! :giggle

We've already been to a couple of trunk or treats but we're still going out trick or treating tonight. Gotta get your money's worth for those costumes, right?!

We are moving family dinner from Thursday to Tuesday and from my parents' house to my sister's. We'll have pizza together, and then my dad (and maybe my mom) will hand out candy at my sister's while she & I take the kids out. Her son decided a couple of years ago that he was too old to ToT but he likes to come out with us, anyways, and walks their dog in costume around. It's supposed to be really cold & my son's winter coat doesn't fit over or under his costume so I don't think we'll be out too long.

I've always taken my kid(s) trick or treating so I've never handed out candy before. They're 3 and 8 so I think I have a few more years before we're done. My husband hates holidays, in general, so last year he sat in the basement with the outside lights off instead of handing out candy to whomever showed up at our house.

We have a winter wonderland outside (the dreaded snow!) so the kids will probably be all bundled up on top of their costumes this evening. Too bad the snow didn't wait for one more day.

My kiddos (6 & 9) are WAY into trick or treating still! Hubby usually walks them & the dog around our neighborhood & I stay home to hand out candy. It's worked well- we have a great neighborhood with quite a few kids- but our gate closes at 5pm- so the kids are usually one's we know or friends of friends so it isn't too crazy!

As far as teenagers trick-or-treating- I figure I'd rather have them doing that than getting in trouble somewhere else! :)
