Who uses 2 monitors?

Wonderful for the times I needed 2 or more spreadsheets open!

Oh absolutely! I know I could have used that a lot when I was working or doing spreadsheets for myself. Now dh reminds me I can have Excel on my phone for free. bwahaha...as if I could even see those cells!!!

My one dil posted a photo on Instagram with a desk with 3 monitors and I got so excited thinking that was their apartment...nope, it was a friend's. I thought my son might have gotten back into writing music. I don't need two monitors but oh I'd like to have them ...just cause I love anything to do with electronics and scrapping and software and hardware if you get my drift. (Is there an emoji for kissing your computer???)

@cookingmylife That's how I felt too, I didn't NEED two monitors and space was a bit of an issue so probably never would have done this had it not been a birthday gift yesterday from the family. But, I did manage to find space and get everything set up together and now that I'm working with the 2 monitors today....I have to say....why the heck did I wait so long LOL. I really love it, especially for working in PS and opening up all the panels on the other screen. I don't know all the ins and outs about how to do this but I would think you can do this with your imac and laptop. Google it.

@michelepixels or anyone else with an iMac.. Is there a way to configure this kind of thing with an iMac and a laptop/MacBookPro? (I suspect I'd have to seriously clean my desk off though...)

I would guess so, but I don't know. I was PC when I was doing the laptop + extra monitor. This iMac I use now is my first Apple since the Apple IIe my mom bought for our family in 1984. :D

I use 2 monitors at work....and sometimes wonder if I should use 2 at home but I don't have space of my own yet for scrapping. I use a laptop and move it wherever in the house.

Same as navaja77. I have two gloriously wide 23" monitors at work. I don't know what I'd do without them. But at home, I use a laptop with its existing little screen and I manage to get by. I seriously wouldn't have room at home for the double monitors I've got at work.

You should be able to set the resolution of each monitor separately Rae... @bcgal00 on my Windows 10 computer I right click anywhere on the desktop and click "display settings" This should bring up a form that shows two rectangles, one for each monitor. When you click on either one of those rectangles you can set the resolution for each. They shouldn't be tied together. I have mine set to "Extend these displays" and that makes them one big long "desktop" (not cloned). I also have two different sized monitors, one is 27" and the other is 24".

Anyway, I absolutely LOVE mine two monitors and seriously can't scrap without two anymore. Even when I go away for a week retreat and I take TWO of them. Lol. I put Photoshop on the main big one (27") and then put about 4 different file explores up on the other one so I can look at picture in one, and several kits or templates in the other ones. Sometimes I have Netflix small in one corner too. :)

Oh... something else to check if you can't get the resolution fixed... check what kind of connection cord you're using. HDMI resolution tops out somewhere lower than what my 27" screen can do so things looked bad at first. I can't remember off the top of my head which ones do better, but I think DVI has better resolution and then display port is the best...

OH! and one more thing... I didn't want both monitors sitting on my desktop eitehr so I took off the stands and mounted them straight my wall! :) I LOVE that. I found some pretty inexpensive brackets and my hubby mounted them to the wall and I screwed the monitors to those. I love being able to adjust them separately AND I have my entire desk top free. :)

I'm not sure if these are the exact brackets but they look very similar.

Yep, I have two also and it makes scrapping so much easier. I have Photoshop on the left and all of my kits, which sites, word docs open on the right since I’m right-handed and I think that is an easier motion to drag from right to left. You will have so much fun, enjoy.

Michele - yes, for PS this is awesome! I had my LO on one monitor and the panels and ACDSEE on the other.

The only weird thing is that the new one (bigger than the other) has the proper resolution/font size set up, the settings carry over onto the second monitor which is super large and I can't change the settings b/c its an extension of the main monitor, so everything is oversized on that one b/c it is supposed to be a lower resolution. Its a small hassle for the advantages but its bugging me to see one normal monitor and one oversized text/images.
So glad you're loving your new gift, Rae. Makes scrapping much more efficient. Woohoo!! Not sure if you got the resolution issue resolved (what Karen said is correct about being able to adjust them separately @Karen). If that didn't work out, another thing you can try is make your small monitor #1 and the large one #2 by changing their order.

You can still use the big one as your main monitor. All you're doing is changing the screen order in the display settings (you can move the monitor icons left and right under the CHANGE THE APPEARANCE OF YOUR DISPLAYS setting). Hope that helps. If it doesn't make sense, let me know.

I'm getting used to the monitors and still need to tweak the settings but I am loving it. I wasn't able to adjust the screen resolution separately on each monitor, for some reason, but I'm getting used to it and if I don't figure it out, I'll be ok with it.

Are you a windows user or mac?

@Karen windows 7

I have not been able to separately adjust the resolution on the 2 monitors.
primary - samsung 28" UHD 4k
secondary - hp 24"

I used two monitors on Windows 7 and was able to adjust them separately.

Minimize or close all of your programs. Then in a blank area on your desktop, right click... do you have "Screen Resolution" in the pop up? It might be something different like "Video settings" or something like that. Just try until you get something like the forum below. I'm on Windows 10 now and it say "screen resolution" but I do think it was something different on 7...

If so, click that and you should see a form like this:

screen resolution form2.jpg

Click "1" screen and then the drop down for resolution drop down is for that screen only. Once you set the resolution for that one... then click on the "2" (the yellow arrow pointing at the 2nd monitor) then the resolution drop down will change only the 2nd monitor. @bcgal00

and WHOA! 28" 4k screen! I'm jelly! I bet it's amazing! :)

@Karen Yes, I'm loving it and was totally surprised at getting this for a b-day gift on Sunday. We aren't usually so extravagant with gifts.

I did set the resolution for each as per your diagram. Each monitor is set for the recommended resolution for each yet the secondary monitor is set too big but if I lower that one than the menus/toolbars for the big one are too small.

I'm sometimes streaming on one when I'm working on the other. I'd love to have a third for that reason
Um, yes. I kinda wish I had 3 so one could stream only. Instead of doing a lot of stuff.

I have Photoshop on the left and all of my kits, which sites, word docs open on the right since I’m right-handed and I think that is an easier motion to drag from right to left.
Interesting. I have mine flipped. I like Photoshop on the right, and everything else on the left. I'm right handed too. But I think it's easier to drag from the left to the right.

I lower that one than the menus/toolbars for the big one are too small.
I wonder if it's the 4K part? I have two Samsung monitors - one connected via HDMI, the other DVI. And each resolution is set separately like Karen described. Neither of mine are 4K though.

Ha! It's funny you posted this because I am soon to replace my mac and it crossed my mind that I could keep the old one as a 'second screen' but I really don't know how much of a benefit it would be.

(But then I realised that it was silly to think about it because I have no room on my desk as it's a 'junior' size desk to fit in my office which is actually my bedroom cupboard LOL!)

I have 2 monitors and a tv mounted too, lol... When I scrap, I have Photoshop open on the right and my folders of kits/pics on the left. It's amazing for giving me the space to "spread out" that I feel like I miss in the computer! When I'm not scrapping, I generally have my email open on the left and my browsers open on the right. It's nice to be able to have tons of stuff open at once and not feel like it all has to be on top of each other. Also, the TV is a smart one so I can stream through it or watch my cable or dvr. Truly, if the kids didn't need me and I had a fridge in here, I'd never have to leave my/the (technically, it's a family space but I use it most so MY) office, lol

Huggles!!
~Sarah~

I'm actually using two iMacs, two different computers, as the Mac doesn't have a tower, the computer is inside the monitor. I do this because my scrapping program is an old one, and long story short, it would cost me a fortune to tun it in the new iMac. I have them networked with my EHDs, so, in a way, I know how it feels to have two monitors and can see why is so amazing!!!!!

not sure you can do that with iMacs? use it as a monitor? you can networked them but not sure how it would work as the system is inside the monitor?

LOOOVE your space!!!!! and the page of course!!!!
