How sad to see this notification! Anyone else see it?
https://www.studiocalico.com/2017/10/message-board-announcement?page=1#comments
I felt so bad for all the members of that community, remembered how sad I felt when 2peas closed down as that was my home when I was a paper scrapper and a newbie digital scrap booker and those memories of all the online friends I had that I no longer have contact with. With reading all of their comments I thought of how I came to The Lilypad, how active our community is, how I appreciate all the kind souls here that encourage me daily weather it is what is going on in my personal life or getting advice with a project. Inspiration!

I've been gone the past week + so I have not been able to share what has happened to me.
We drove out to Colorado to meet my very first grandchild. Zoey, she is beautiful, a treasure, it was so nice to hold her and even change her diaper, be her first babysitter so her parents could go out on a date.

On our last day there we got a phone call from our son Mark that our Selah was not doing well. We knew this before we left as she has been sick for over a year. So instead of spending the night on the way home we decided to drive straight through, 1300 miles is a long drive! We did make it home in time, and said our goodbyes. My heart went from complete joy to heartbreak.

Thank You to everyone here at TLP for caring about everyone here through their ups and downs in their personal lives and your constant caring! I really do appreciate each and every one of you!

Hugs! What an emotional time you've had...
I have noticed the same with facebook/message boards for myself. I have moved away from being active here, and stay in Facebook groups mostly.... different hobby/addictions is what I thought, but reading the post at SC was enlightening...

You've had a rollercoaster week! Glad you got to see your grandbaby, but sorry about your dog. Sending BIG HUGS and a kiss from Bart!

I love the community here at TLP and the forum and gallery are a HUGE part of that. I couldn't live without talking with all my TLP friends here in the forum.

It's not the same on Facebook. I know I'm getting older, but it's so much easier to navigate our forum here than in a group on Facebook - I definitely don't like they algorithms FB uses and I miss a lot of things if I'm not on constantly . . . and to be honest, I don't want or need to be on FB all the time. That's why it's so nice here. With my recent surgery, I have had to be hit or miss but I can still come back and catch up at any time.

@Sokee I'm so delighted about your new grandbaby, but so very sorry about the loss of your furbaby. That's definitely an emotional roller coaster you've been on. Sending ((HUGS)) and prayers for bright tomorrows.

FB and IG are not the same as a forum. God only knows what you miss on those with the strange algorithms. Here I can just go to new Posts and see everything. Not only what an algorithm thinks interests me. For me FB or IG are not community building the same way a forum is.

@Sokee Congrats on your darling granddaughter. She is adorable.
So sorry to hear about your dog. 1300 miles, wow. But at least you could say goodbye...:-(

Agree! FB and IG are not the same as a message board! It's so sad! They didn't even have a FB group set up that their members could go to ... from what I could gather at reading the thread.
But ... that is the trend in the paper scrapbooking world from what I can see. Most of the paper companies do not manage - galleries and forums. It's a dieing luxury for paper scrappers (to chat, share, be inspired and build a community from the company you buy from). I am so happy I am mostly digi. And so grateful for TLP!

I love IG for it's visual aesthetic ... I just love to scroll through my feed and look at all the inspirational photos and images ... but when you follow a lot of biz's it can be overwhelmingly market-y. It doesn't have that real connection thing though. And FB ... bleh. I get a headache looking at my feed most of the time.

Your grandbaby is beautiful and that picture just warmed my heart. Then I kept reading, and my heart broke with yours. I am so sorry about your furbaby! So many emotions in such a short time. Hugs.

Oh gosh, Zoey is totally precious. Congratulations! So sorry about your furbaby though. And off to read that post ...

I agree. I love TLP. I was profoundly saddened by the closing of ScrapMatters and didn't find a place that I could call home until I discovered this place. I was at another store, but it wasn't home but where the designers I CTd for were at, and that was it. I didn't hang out there because it wasn't the same and there were too many rules.

I don't IG and I'm only on FB for a few groups and for friends and family who I live away from. The forum is the heart of this place due to all the lovely people who are here and share their pages, designs, joys, sorrows and silliness. This place is just great!

Oh man... losing your community home is so hard!
I'm so excited that you got to meet, visit and babysit your new precious grandbaby. I'm so sorry about your puppers. Sending hugs!

Thankyou Barbara for sharing both happenings in your life... both happy and sad. Being a grandmother is WONDERFUL! sorry about your precious pet.

I am not a lover of Facebook. The only reason I have an account is for a few private groups I need to be in. I prefer forums for interaction. I do not really like the FB terminology "Friend request" etc.

Awwww!!! What a precious little peanut!! I'm so sorry about your furbaby...it's always so hard to lose a pet!

I have a FB and an IG...but I'm terrible at using IG (I feel like a posting you know what when I post the same thing to multiple things when I have a tight following of friends), and well FB, I do some status updates, share some photos, but I'm not super active in the groups. Way. Too. Much. Drama.

This. Exactly. I hate not being able to go back to a thread without a convoluted process too! I hate feeling like if I'm not constantly on, I don't get to see something. I have to be there for Homeschool groups, and design teams. Other than that, I rarely check it anymore. It's too hard to navigate what I want to see.

Oh I so agree!! I have stop following the majority of my friends because I don't need the drama or the cats or dogs or 'my cute kid'. I mostly just check my family's activities. If I had a dog or cat or cute kid I'd be posting them but those days are long gone. Instagram I do and if you want to see what we eat, there's the place. LOL

But it's a shame about Studio Calico. The industry is certainly changing. I'm so glad I'm digital.

@Sokee I just love that photo of you and the wee one and That Fuzzy Head! Just rubbing your chin on Zoey's head must have been one of the most delightful feeling! I'm so sorry that it was followed by the loss of the dog. :hugI don't think my dh will ever have another pet after we had the same situation with my(really his) Siamese.

Oh Barbara, YEA for meeting your little granddaughter Zoey!
And I'm so sorry about Selah. It would be hard enough as it is, but to have that happen right after your Zoey elation must have made it harder.

As for TLP: Yes, I love the community here too. I love the fact that we are a positive place even though we are a diverse group of people. I love that anytime someone has a question, it is answered (or someone tags someone else who should have the answer lol). The kindness and helpfulness are fantastic!

Barbara - sweet pic of you and your new grandbaby! So sorry to hear about Selah though. Hugs.

I agree with you, I am so thankful for TLP, for everyone here who is kind, compassionate and helpful with each other. Although I am on FB a lot off and on throughout the day, like Cheryl said, a lot of info can be missed and I only get bits and pieces as I pop in and out. I like coming here, can check all the new posts and gallery pics and find it easy to navigate.

TLP can't ever close their forum....just saying :)

@cookingmylife I agree with you, I too am so glad I switched to digital 5 yrs ago. During that time, most of our brick and mortar paper scrapping stores have closed and there are very few crops to go to anymore. Whereas with digi, the variety and selection keeps getting better and better. And nothing beats the online crops where you can scrap up a storm but not make any mess :)
