Keyboard Quirks | Pad Patter 10.5.17

I took typing in high school and loved it. We learned on old non-electric ones, so we really got our finger strength up! While in grad school I worked as an administrative assistant and typed a lot, so much that my WPM was around 95 without many errors. That was fine until I lost part of a finger and had to re-learn to type with one less finger. I'm still pretty fast, but my error margin has severely increased. Oh well. But all my typing is done in forums these days, so I don't have to worry about being fast anymore!

Bart is an excellent typer, and never makes mistakes!

My parents tried to get me to learn typing (Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, anyone?), but I could never do it the "proper" way. I have my own system now and am fairly fast and accurate (thanks to 14 years of writing computer code). The exception seems to be when I'm using my new MacBook laptop. It has the "butterfly" keyboard, and the key press just feels wrong and doesn't always trigger like I think it will.

Now, my iPhone is another story. I am horrible on the on-screen keyboard! And I don't know why, but every time I try to type a space into the search bar in the iOS web browser, I get a '.' instead.

Thank goodness Bart doesn't care so much about typos. He just wants kisses!

I remember Mavis Beacon! I was never good at her proper way either! ( And I just pretty much keyboard mashed my way thru that whole sentence- on phone - i feel your pain)

I'm a super fast typer as I've been typing since I was around 4. I touch type, so sometimes my fingers move without me even having to think about what I'm typing. Don't ask me to map out the keyboard, I wouldn't be able to tell you, but I know it my muscle memory.

That being said, sometimes my fingers move faster than my brain and I make mistakes. Haha

@jenn mccabe I hear you on Mac's autocorrect being annoying a lot. It wants to change your last name to macabre, for the latest example.

Yes, ditto on my iMac. I wish I could enter your name Jen and have it 'added to the dictionary' somewhere like you can do in Word.

I was taught typing in high school at a summer course but to my mother's shame and regret I couldn't pass the civil service typing test when I tried to get a job between school years. My mother finally got angry with me and said...Any monkey can be taught to type! My response? Obviously, I'm not a monkey. That got me a couple days of her not speaking to me... Fortunately, in my working life I never had to take a speed test again and could type at my own pace or have others do it for me. I was so happy when computers came into my life!! backspace or CMD Z are godsends!

ohhh Justine..... I am fluent in Typonese , so I know what you are talking about!!!!
I have that "keyboard dyslexia" but my thing goes further, I forget numbers order in a second, like if copying something I need to have someone reading the numbers out to me, and then I read them to check I haven't swapped the numbers around, but the keyboard thing you are describing is an everyday to me... the girls who come to my chats regularly can vouch for that!!! LOL I find that is worse when I am tired, or in a hurry, of I slow down and tale my time, it gets better...
One thing we NEED to do, is tell the [whoever deals with these things] that the word "JOURNALING" needs to be add as a proper word now. autocorrect recognizes Facebook, Twitter , Netflix... why not this word that for many scrappers (and we are armies of people !!!! LOL) is an everyday word? it annoys me to see t6hat red dotted line!!!!!
