Geeky Stuff | Pad Patter 3.15.17

So it seems from the previous thread and social media, pi/pie day is embraced and people are proud to geek out at certain things more these days (maybe the global influence of Big Bang Theory?) Either way is there anything you geek out over? Are you all about an aspect of science or maths (or computer science)? Or are you a homeschooler that hates both of these?

I may have pin board on those subjects (it has a lot of bad puns but even bad puns amuse me) and i love when time travel and worm holes and such become part of a fiction book i'm reading (and i still love Back to the Future (3rd one is still my fave) but what made me giddy last week was seeing this (science plus typography made me happy)

love that! my DS (8y.o) says stuff to me like 'yeah mum, i know what heat transfer is' - it's cute but geeky funny - but i cringe that he is already at the eyeroll stage!

@bellbird omg! my not even 4 year already rolls his eyes at me...I KNEW it was too early for him to do that!!! I always said he would be rolling eyes at me very soon because of my nerd styles...but come on! not even 4...too early...right? tough years ahead? I hope not!

Lots of nerds at my house, including me. BS in Computer Science, College of Engineering, and 20+ years in the IT field. Hubby almost had a Masters in Chemistry, worked as a chemist for 1 year, and then went into IT, where he has been for the last 29 years. Son #1 also has a BS in Computer Science, Engineering and has worked in web design for 4 years. Son #2 is in 2nd year of college in Material Science Engineering with a double major in Math. Then there is daughter (she didn't get the nerd genes since she is adopted), but she is homeschooled which makes her different! She plans to own a dinner or a bakery after attending culinary school. She is the one you see most often in my layouts.

Son #2 loves puns, especially nerdy ones, so I will need to show him your post.

I have a bachelor of science in Dental hygiene! I LOVE chemistry- I was even a chemistry tutor in college to pay the bills! I'm one of the weird ones who like to read new research articles & read my dental hygiene publications (Dimensions of DH, Journal of DH, RDH magazine, etc.) cover to cover every month!

My hubby is very NOT into science- he's more into finance/banking/management. The kids so far love science & we do a lot of easy fun experiments at home DD really wants to go into veterinary medicine when she grows up which would be awesome!

I'm not smart enough to be geeky, but I 'geek' out at things.. does that count? LOL. I play video games and love Marvel movies, so I get that stuff, and I LOVE the typography you posted, I get that and love things like that!

I am proudly a math geek. I have always loved anything and everything to do with numbers! If I hadn't gone in to teaching, I would have definitely done more with my love of math. One of my very favorite times during my teaching career was when I was co-teaching in Algebra and Geometry classes. I got to combine two of my loves! Unfortunately, not one of my 3 kids have ever loved math and just think I'm weird. The youngest is a science and history buff. I give him the same blank stare when he talks about that stuff as he does me when I talk about math .

And I don't know what kind of geek it makes me, but I love and pretty much have to know how things work and how to fix them. Not everything, but I have taken apart and fixed our washer, dryer, and many computers. I also do all the tech support thingies in our house. From the time I was little, every time my dad would get a new gadget, he would open it, toss aside the directions, and just say "Jan, figure this out".
