I am suddenly having problems with my keyboard and trackpad or bluetooth today. They just stopped working. I have a 2011 iMac. I tried posting this in the Apple help forums but they gave me a hard time about my Apple ID and wouldn't let me log in. (Grrrr)

I finally got the keyboard and trackpad working again after I went into the Bluetooth settings (lucky I have another wired keyboard and alternative mouse that works) and I told the computer to forget the keyboard and trackpad. Then, after I restarted my computer, Bluetooth detected them and allowed me to re-pair them.

But this has never happened in the 6 years I've had this computer. Have you experienced this? Do you think my keyboard and trackpad are dying?

I have this issue every once in a while with my Mac's bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Oddly enough, it seems to happen when my iPhone is situated between the mouse/keyboard and the computer. My computer is a Mac Pro, so it sits off on a corner of the desk and isn't integrated with the monitor like an iMac. If the keyboard or mouse starts to act up, now the first thing I do is move the iPhone if it's "in the way." I wouldn't think that it could cause signal issues, but maybe it does?

Thanks Melissa! That's interesting. Normally my iPhone does sit between my keyboard & trackpad and the iMac. If this happens again, I'll try moving the phone somewhere else.

I don't have a track pad, but I am most definitely not happy with lots of the things of my new iMac.
Bought this in June 16 (I think) and already crashed before Christmas which meant I started MOC without it...
The mouse has this issue that to me in so annoying: sometimes doe3sn't warn you went is running out of battery so then just plain stops working and- of so very clever Apple- NOT- you can't use the mouse when is charging, as the slot to stick the cable is under the mouse....

Another thing I was actually going to write to you, Melissa, @scrappyjedi , is the fact that Finder in the new computer does not tell me how much do I have left or have used.
In my old iMac , on the bottom part of the finder it tells you how many gig of date is being used so it was easy for me to calculate when was getting too full and move things, I can't even see the amount in the EHDs in the new iMac :(
I'm quiet sure there has to be a way to know, but it was easy for me to look at the finder and know....and the pleasurable feeling when I did some cleaning up and moved to trash, to see the numbers crowing meaning I have more space......

Go to Finder-->View-->Show Status Bar

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!! thanks!!!!!!!!! it shows only how many items I have though... I ll come back when I have the other iMac on so I can tell you exactly how the other one reads, or maybe it will only tell me how many gigs are used when I am closer to the limit?
thanks so much @mollyc
by the way, I have been meaning to mention, like this avatar a lot more than your old one, I know this isn;t exactly new, but you changed it about a few months ago? my brain doesn't work well but I know I noticed it a while ago but haven't been around the forum much...:)

Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing? The status bar really should show you the remaining available space and not just the number of items.

I did a little Googling last night after I wrote that post, and it seems I'm not the only person to have discovered that particular fix for a Bluetooth issue. I also have the same problem with my iPad and wifi sometimes. If it's on its stand right in front of the Mac, sometimes it won't get a wifi signal. If I move it slightly to the side, the signal comes back.

Some things like your computer name and All My Files do only show number of items. But if you are in a specific folder it should show file numbers and free space.

yep, that was the thing, I didn't realize I had finder opened in a folder that has photos, so it was telling me the amount of items in that folder... when I went to try do the screen shot , I realized I needed to get out of that folder, and I can say another thank you thank you!!!!! because it now shows the available gigs!!!!!!
@mollyc @scrappyjedi
thanks girls!!!!!

Ah...I didn't know that and I was always going to 'show info' to get that info. Shared knowledge is wonderful!
