Has anyone got or used a 3D printer?
Have you thought about or tried any scrap related printing?

DD started a 3D modelling and printing course out of interest and after watching some 'how-to' videos the other day about the program she had to use, one of a guy making, basically, some wordart into a keyring, my mind automatically went to how this could be used in a hybrid scrapping way - i think it's a bit costly at the moment but do you think this is the next step from digital die cutting machines etc??
 
oh, I have no idea... if prizes would drop, then probably it will be used (more) for scrapping, but since it's way to expensive I think that won't happen soon...
 
We have a 3D printing machine at work and I've thought about a zillion ways I wish I could use it for my crafting purposes! Especially when I've wanted a stamp to use in my art journal, but can't find one to buy. :giggle I think it would be highly frowned upon if I used it for personal projects though. bummer!
 
My brother has a 3D printer, but he lives in Texas and I'm in Utah so kinda hard to use it. Great thought about using a 3D printer with scrapbook items. Maybe someday the prices will come down and then I would love to use it for crafting things. I have a old cricut and wish I had a silhouette, but I don't use my cricut enough to justify buying another machine. I think I don't use the cricut because the cartridges are so expensive. I only use the cricut when the kids need letters for a poster and even then it's a pain. Our dollar tree store has diecut letters so I usually just get those instead of fighting with my cricut.
 
Hmmm...not something I had ever thought about before. The Barnes that we go to had a 3D printer type deal set up at the center desk and it was cool to watch it make things, but it took forever, so we never did see a model made from start to finish.

@keepscrappin I think if you change machines you will find yourself using it more often, especially if you switch to the Cameo (I had a Cameo, but now have an eClips2 which I do prefer over the Cameo) or another one that allows you to cut .svg files; so much easier than the old school Cricut (I had every Cricut with the exception of the Create I think it was, it was the one after the baby bug and before the 1st Expression, the Mini or any of the Explores).
 
I've never seen a 3d printer make anything other than a hard, white plastic object. I like the idea of it but -- unless I'm missing something -- it seems the printers commonly available have limited usefulness.
 
I have only seen these in tv programmes when the bad guys make guns to smuggle through security.
Not sure how or what I would make, given the opportunity.
 
I think I've only seen a 3D printer in person once, and it wasn't working. It was quite disappointing as it was a demonstration at a bookstore, and we'd attended the event specifically to see the printer.

I have never considered the possibilities of 3D printing for scrapbooks. I only scrap digitally. My husband and I have discussed the possibilities of 3D printing for other things though.

I have a cricut too! Used to teach classes when I worked at the local scrapbook store (then it had to close) BUT we had where you could rent the cartridges! Do you have this option near you? Look into it. What was great, is when our store would have a 'Crop' ladies would come in and sometimes they would just borrow one cartridge after another and do cuts and store them in ziplock bags for future use. Sign up for a local 'Crop' And see who in the room would let you borrow their cartridges to cut what you need!
 
I have ordered custom 3d printed cookie cutters and used those to make a ton of cute cookies... This is especially cute as a gift for the bride to be. I make a cookie with the monogram for the couple, and if I really like them, I'll buy a matching custom stamp as well! Then, at the shower, we eat the cookies and she keeps the cutter and the stamp!! I'm so crafty!!

Good to know! It seems like the paper scrapbook stores are closing more and more around here. So glad I found digi 11 years ago when Megan was born.

I agree that if I had a silhouette I'd use it more than I use my cricut. I don't use the cricut much because it's such a pain and so limited with the cartridges. I used to have some software called make the cut that would allow you do cut different things with the cricut, but Provo craft sued them so now it's outdated and you can't get updates for the new windows operating systems.

LOL ok not what i was thinking, i guess they have an image problem!
 
Them suing MTC and SCAL, is where they really made a huge mistake, and it took them years to realize...I guarantee you, that is the ONLY reason they came out with the Explore and their own software that would allow their customers to cut .svg files. I will NEVER be a ProvoCraft customer again; their business ethics isn't something I can support.

I use my cricut all the time! I guess because I'm so used to creating my own images, I am able to use the software it came with to upload any images I draw or buy to make whatever I want (so far)... Maybe it's because of the cricut I have? It says Explore Air...

I have used it to label my son's dresser drawers, and all the toy/craft boxes. Plus, scrapbook type stuff, and maybe a card or two...
