What's the worst job you've ever had? Maybe it was the shift that made it bad, or your coworkers or the job itself.

But everyone has that one job they hated, right?

Mine was picking tobacco. It was good money, especially at 14. But early hours {had to be there by 5am}, started cold, then got hot and humid as the sun rose. And it was sticky work.

How about you?

Mine was working in a convenience store UGH. I had worked in the car wash part of this place for a couple of summers and loved it! Then the third summer I worked there, they moved me in to the store and I hated ever single minute of it. People are just rude.

I worked the 'drive-thru' (that spelling still makes me cringe!) at Steak 'n' Shake the summer I turned 16.

It was horrific. The only other person I knew there worked opposite shifts of me since we did the same job. Everyone else was much older (like 10, 15, 20 years+) than me and never talked to me unless they wanted me to work for them so they could go smoke. No one, of course, ever would take over for me so I could go pee or sit down. I worked several 6-7 hour shifts where I didn't get a break at all. Being the drive-thru worker also meant you did all the grunt work no one else wanted to do (sorting salads in the walk-in, etc.) + helping everyone else when it was busy + making sure your own work was covered.

I worked there 8 weeks and lost 35 lbs!

I did this as a writing exercise with my students once. I remember how one boy wrote that being a porta potty cleaner would have to be the worst job in the world. He was probably right.

I had a principal, where I taught, that made our lives a living hell. I was elated when he retired.

Oh gosh. My worst job was working at a doctor's office. The office manager was the wife of the head doctor/partner. She was horrible. I mean, he divorced a wife, married this woman, and then made her the manager. Long story short: she didn't know how to manage, and I, while able to work independently and be a go-getter, still needed to know what my job description was besides "can you alphabetize?" (No joke, a coworker told me I was the only applicant to correctly alphabetize a mock patient list in the job application, and that's what got me the job! WHAT?!) Ugh.

Ugh...I worked in an insurance office where the boss started dating one of the workers (it was a small office). She suddenly thought she could manage others in the office. I marched straight to his office and told him the day she starts signing my paycheck is the day she can bark out orders. She left me alone after that.

I was a hostess at a more upscale restaurant. I actually really liked the job. It was my boss who made it horrible. Let's just say it ended up with him being accused of sexual harassment, and he got fired (apparently I was not his first incident either).

Long John Silver's...my first job. I came home after every shift smelling like fish
I worked at Red Lobster for a few years. I hate fish. I hate the smell of fish. And I hated smelling like fish every day I worked.

Just a few bad bosses, like that one that lectured me on how my primary job was to make him look good. I left as soon as I could. And in another job, my boss's boss who I wished would just "go away", who demanded we look up to him. Then he got cancer and died. Then I felt really, really bad as that was not what I meant by "go away".

Wow, I had no idea how many people have the same story as I do. I worked for an LP Gas company out in the sticks and the manager was horrid and made my life an absolute hell. I would climb into hubby's car most nights and cry. Thankfully I fell pregnant and left to have my oldest and never looked back. Now it's cleaning toilets, and cleaning cat barf that get me down, but I roll with it.

My worst job was when I was young and got my first restaurant job while I was going to college. I had only ever worked one job at Burger King before getting this job. I was thrilled to have this part time job just a 10 minute walk from home and it was such a friendly family owned restaurant. But I started feeling weird around the owner, he would stare at me weirdly. One Saturday he offered to drive me home and I didn't know how to say no. As we were en route he said he had to make a stop first and we drove in a different direction. On the way to wherever he was driving we were hit by a car going thru a stop sign. We were ok, it was just a bit of a fender bender. He told me to call a cab and go home and never tell anyone we were together. I quit the next day. That scared me, wondering what his plans were that day. I never went back.

I've been pretty lucky with my jobs, if I had to pick a bad one it would be delivering newspapers - not because of the job but because I live in Canada, so in the winter you would still have to go out and walk thru -40' weather to deliver the papers after school every day.

I was offered a position in a company that turned out to be (in my opinion) fraudulent. Also the owner felt his employees should thank him everyday for the right to work there. There were also lots of desperate people there. Thank goodness I wasn't. I left once I saw what was going on.

I had a job where was to take the calls for a company and the first day on the job the boss came with his list of phone numbers of who was his wife and mistress and how I should handle when they called. When home for lunch and never returned.

Hardest working job was my first at the local diner. No dishwasher. I hand washed every single dish! But the owner was the sweetest elderly woman that would insist I take breaks and feed me!
