Parties and direct sales...

I'm not a fan. Although I once hosted an on-line Jamberry party last year. Surprisingly, it did very well, and I ended up with tons of free and reduced priced wraps. I have enough to change them everyday for years and still never wear the same ones twice. I still like them, but I don't wear them all the time.
 
I go to online parties every now and then. The games are fun and I've won a few prizes, but I always feel like I need to buy something so if I know I can't, I skip them. I've been really tempted a few times to sell different things...Scentsy, Jamberry, a few others but like you said, I don't think I'd put the time in to it to really do well. And besides that, I'm a terrible sales person lol.
 
I'll go occasionally but haven't been to one for ages. One of my friends who did Creative Memories and has moved onto another scrapbooking Brand (can't remember which one) still invites me but I find excuses not to go. I didn't really l;ike their stuff and I no longer paper scrap anyway.

My favourites were when the kids were little and another friend used to sell DK books - they weren't available in the shops way back then. Loved them and loved getting the big discounts for hosting the parties without the pressure of having to rebook other parties. Always a sucker for good books..
 
I don't mind them either since I do sell Epicure. I have been for about 6 years now. I don't really push the products and seldom have a party but always willing to host one for those that do. I have a fairly good customer base that keeps my status as consultant active and I love the products so it's win-win. ;)

It totally depends on the products I also will sometimes just make a purchase instead of going to a party. I kind of sell Tupperware right now because when I had a tupperware party in February, the lady signed me up for the kit which I got for an awesome deal. I like parties because a lot of the time you get some great deals. My friend just signed up as a Rodan and Field consultant too. LOOOOVVVVEEEE that stuff! I can't even believe the difference!

I too have a friend selling R&F. That's skin care, right? I'm horrible about skin care. Lol
 
I also like being the one who has a friend in all the businesses, so when I want something, or when someone else wants something, I can point them, and sometimes get a referral kick back or something, but also because if I've experienced a great seller, I will be loyal to that seller any time I need new/more. If the seller is continuing their business, I'm going to continue to be their customer, and not flip flop to several others.

Yes! This is me! I also like to give away free stuff to my faithful customers. :)
 
Even as a kid I could see pressure to buy when my parents had a friend who sold Shaklee vitamins. They cost SO much, and they were HUGE pills! I would hide mine and not take it. I feel bad now, as we were quite poor and my parents did it to make us healthy.. and I hid them :(
I now get loads of calls and Facebook invites to sell or attend parties. Im not anti-social, but im a loner. I dont like parties or groups. I like to comparison shop and be frugal and I like more obscure things. Id rather get a cool nail polish from an edgy Etsy seller than the Jamberry stuff and be the same as the other moms around me, plus when the edges of the nail sticker things come up, the sensory issues come out in me! It drives me nuts when they wont stick 100%. I dont buy new Tupperware, I collect vintage dishes. I buy makeup online at places like BHcosmetics, and pay a fraction what others I know pay. I have been invited to the LuLaRue parties where they sell clothing and try them on at the hosts house.. uhh.. I just couldn't. I love the eclectic designs, so if if buy, ill do so online. Just no follow up calls please. I wont even mention the naughty toy parties...Maybe I am anti-social.
 
I'm with @AnneofAlamo , I don't like going to the parties because there is too much pressure. However, if it's a FB party I might look. Currently I'm using Rodan and Fields and getting great results -- but still think it is too expensive so I'm not sure how long I'll use it. The gal that sold it to me isn't pushy! I have some Pampered Chef items that I love. I don't know that many people that actually make a living with it!
 
I have absolutely no interest in any of them and currently don't know any person who sells any of the things. About 20 years ago, I did go to a Pampered Chef one, and would have liked a couple of their gadgets but...too pricey and I try to avoid one use gadgets. btw, while I am frugal/cheap I do want quality and am satisfied with my nearby Williams Sonoma outlet store. ;)

I did get invitations back in my single mom days but I always went (if I liked the person) with the understanding that I was not buying. Most of the party hosts were also just scraping by single moms and it seemed a way to supplement a low government salary to them. But most of the buyers were in the same category and the money made at 'your' party seemed to be spent at some one else's party. Between school and work (oh yeah...teenagers), I just couldn't see it for me.

I did win an orange 'orange unzipper' which my current husband uses to deseed a pound or so of jalapeños at a time! Those Tupperware gifts were unique. :)

Now this I might be interested in because we buy books for a boys middle school and always scour used bookstores for the DK books. I bought them for my own children in England and still find them excellent!
 
I don't mind the on-line ones. Sometimes they can be fun. With that said I probably only 'attend' about 25% of the ones I'm invited to. I know when I don't have money to spend. LOL!

I've actually hosted a few. My sisters sells Jamberry (which I love), and I did pretty good with a party. I've also hosted a in home Pampered Chef Party a couple of times. I really love those....because food!
 
I used to sell Tupperware, and I use the word sell loosely. I was my best customer...lmao

The rep that I buy Perfectly Posh from keeps trying to get me to sign on, but I'm not motivated enough.
