Duplicating Pages

This is sort of a spin-off on the thread by @bestcee about repetitive scrapping... but, do you ever forget that you've scrapped a page and then you end up scrapping the same pics/event again?

I've done that with regular pages, and I've never thought it was that big of a deal, but I just accidentally recreated a week from PL. I'm annoyed because my PL pages take me way longer than a regular page, and I have so many to still do, it makes me mad that I duplicated a week. I have a checklist and naming convention that *should* keep me from doing that, but apparently I moved things into folders "for print" and forgot to check.

So do you ever purposely or accidentally recreate pages?

i re-scrap photos often. maybe it's because a new kit would go really well with the photo, or i'm not crazy about the original page or its style.

and i can totally see how redoing a PL page by accident could irritate you. PL pages are sup'd to be quick and simple ... but they do often take longer than regular pages. i just can't keep up with that kind of commitment these days.

Yes, and often on purpose. @jenn mccabe, I also think of new things if something comes along that inspires me, like a challenge or new kit. I can see how i might be irritated to re-do a page that was fine the first time around though

Not usually. I occasionally will scrap a photo multiple times... only because I like that photo or I want to tell a different story. :)

I have put the same exact page into 2 printed books, on accident! lol
I like to now do what I call throw back pages...of my kids when they were younger...is fun to see them

OK, help me out here------what are PL pages????
PL= project life, meaning the weekly documentation of everyday happenings :)

I think I've accidentally scrapped the same story just once. Usually, if I scrap the same photo, I've used a different story... usually. There have been some I've re done on purpose, or else I've decided to use a photo a second time (or third or fourth) on purpose.

Thanks, Kristine! I also use a photo over and over if it is one I really like. I will see a kit or have an idea for a layout, and a certain photo that I have used before pops into my head.

I don't know how you name your photo files. But I put an "x" in front of the number when I scrap it. It moves it to the end and also having a picture not in the middle of others it makes me look to see if I've done the page I'm doing

good idea carilyne... i would've never thought of that.

Only on purpose if I never liked the original page. I keep good control over what I haven't done because I'm so far behind. Scrapping a page twice would make me mad!

Never! Re-creating a page was one of the hardest challenges for me in the MOC last January! :D I just don't want to scrap photos I've already done because I have so many.

I have only done this once. I name a folder for each thing I'm scrapping and I do them by year-month-day_event so that I normally would notice if I'd already scrapped something. I also have an excel file with my "To Scrap" list and I mark events "done" when I've scrapped them. So I usually know what I've already scrapped, but once I re-scrapped a day at the beach and didn't realize until I copied the .jpg into my finished layout folder.

Then I had the problem that I liked both pages and couldn't decide which one to put in my Shutterfly book! :giggle

I have redone some of my paper layouts. I usually only redo a page if I really really really hate the original, or if the story isn't actually there. Right now, I've been redoing my Alaska Cruise. It's a paper book, and I don't like the design, plus it's too thick, and hard to look through. So, no one does. And there's very very little story.

As far as photos, I started using @gonewiththewind 's process and marking a photo with a purple color label in Lightroom when I scrap it. It's easy to see at a glance which photos I have used. And easy to reference my layouts since I name them year first to see if that's the story I told. I have used the same photo for a different story, or a later perspective that I feel needs to be told, or a then and now page if it's the right photo for the job.

I have a couple of systems set up to try to avoid accidentally doing this, but I'm human and prone to error, so I can't say it's never happened. It's one thing to purposefully rescrap a photo, if I have a different story to tell, or I have a CT obligation that would best be met using a particular photo I've already scrapped . . . and another to forget and rescrap a page that was perfectly fine in its original form.

Like @bestcee Courtney said, I color code my used photos with purple in Lightroom once I've scrapped them. It's a good visual cue for me to just look past them when I'm searching for photos for certain events. The same premise that @carilyne used . . . utilizing the "x" . . . just something out of the ordinary for you to recognize, hey, that's already done! In this screen shot, you can see that I've only scrapped two photos from that date, and they are of my cat, Holly Belle.

My second system is using an Excel file. I could just use Lightroom, but I also love seeing events/dates and what needs to be scrapped still. Here's a screenshot of the corresponding Excel sheet showing the layout that I completed with Holly Belle's photos. To the left of the completed layout is a description of what happened that day. I do that because I'm old, and I forget what has happened. Sometimes I'm more descriptive than other times.

Here's a peek at another section of the my Excel sheet, showing an event that has been completely scrapped (it's been grayed out). So ideally, when several rows are complete and grayed out, I know it's time to print and it's easy to find the layouts.

Here's something I am doing with my kids' albums since I'm starting so far back with them...

I am using the PL app to do many of the monthly layouts of them.

so the K is for Kaydence, the 1 being the first in her "series". The label at the top left is my indication of what time frame it will cover, and then I have a list of things I think I will add (it's pretty vague, i was not around my paper list when I did this), then I put the images of the layouts I've completed into the squares.

Oooh, I like this visual way of planning out albums, too! Thank you for sharing this!

Thank you for all these ideas of keeping a track on layouts.
I am soon to start working on a lot of different important vacations I have had over the years and reading all this has helped me to know how to keep the layouts all organised.

I redo a lot of photos. Mostly because I don't have a pic that fits a CT page unless I repeat - or I want to tell a different part of the story.
