Where do you get your inspirations from before you start an art journaling page?

For me, it's from my daily life experience, sometimes I go through Pinterest to look at NON digital Art Journalling pages.. sometimes it's just how I feel that current moment. What I hardly use as inspirations would be quotes. Quotes will always be the last thing I do before I complete a page.

Sometimes my mood will help me figure out which color I want to use. I use quotes more when I don't have any of my own words to add. A lot of my AJ is where I try new techniques within my program or layout, so sometimes that is the inspiration of the page, too.

Usually it is one of two things... 1) a cool new kit I want to play with or 2) my mood

I'm also a mood AJ person. But sometimes, if I use a photo in my AJ, the photo itself will spark ideas. Then again, its more like feelings rather than mood. Its the feelings that a mood or a photo or a piece of art or object will stir up that makes me want to do an AJ page. Then there are times that something that happened in my life will also bring about an AJ page.

I generally don't use photos in art journaling pages, especially ones of me unless I'm forced to. :-) A great quote I've stumbled upon can stimulate my desire to create a page. If I need to vent it will go into an art journal page. And getting a new kit will also spark creativity. I've been known to surf Pinterest or Google images for inspiration, but not that often.

Still in the first steps here, mainly I play digitally and use challenges from TLP to get me doing something each week. I hope to get up to doing some sort of page every day, be it digital or RL.

When doing something on my own initiative, I mainly rely on Tangie Baxter's Art Caravan stuff as a jumping off point. Her book club has been my main guide so far. There are so many techniques I've never heard of. Even when I don't have all the supplies, reading a technique gets my digitals itching and away I go. . . playing and making digital or RL with what supplies I do have and loads of imagination. It's really helped me ignore the inner critic/nag.

Mood, if I can't figure out what I want to do or say often will go through Pinterest for a quote or get inspiration for pictures.

ah!! I love Tangie's Art Caravan!! There is much info in there..

I really really really want to take a class at her studio. I'm also considering her digital art journal class online.... so tempted!

As a disciple of the Tangerine! I say go for it! She as a person is marvelous, and you will discover things that amaze yourself..and I love her so much!
Inspiration to me is just a jump away!

I'm a member of her Caravan/Emporium, whatever it is called this year. I've been actively participating in her weekly itineraries since January 2014. If you sign up for her newsletter, I think she includes a partial weekly itinerary in it for free. You could join the Caravan for a few months & see if you'd like it. Lots of tutorials are included.

I do receive the newsletter ones. I haven't put the effort into actually trying them, which is the reason I haven't yet purchased the classes - I am not 100% certain I will make the time for them that I really want to.

I have an "unspoken" debacle with myself... drop some creative teams to do fun things, or don't buy any more fun things like that. So when I'm ready to leave some teams, I think her group will be something I look into more!

@klee73010 I totally understand. I work FT in a really STRESSFUL job, my only release is digital art (& gluebooks & zentangles) during my spare time, which isn't much. I think I must be getting faster at putting together a finished layout (thank MOC for that - ha!). I usually reserve one nite a week for Tangie. Not sure if you have joined her Art Journal Pockets group. That is free, and it would give you a feel for her "classroom". Plus she does give 2-3 free AJP pages out monthly.

a lot of the time it just has to do with my mood for the moment - but sometimes what I have seen during the day. when I am playing just for fun I will just start browsing my folders and pull things that call to me and just let them put themselves into a page.
