So this week, we celebrated my grandma's 96th birthday. 96!!!!! It amazes me. She still drives, lives on her own, does all of her own cleaning, cooking and shopping and prides herself on taking a couple of her friends grocery shopping because they don't drive. (In contrast, my 71 year old uncle who generally seems young for his age, whines about driving up from Oregon to visit her... and I want to smack him.) There are 90 years separating my grandma and my grandson. And I swear Kennedy is the light in her life that keeps her going. Almost the first thing she says when I call her up is, "What's Kennedy up to?" And we see her about every week and a half so she doesn't feel like she's missing out. :)

Like most birthdays, it got me thinking about time and things we have planned for our futures... are there things you'd like to do before your next birthday (or major milestone)? Care to share some of them?? Do you have a list of things like some people who will say they want to do 30 things before 30 or 50 things before they turn 50? Or some people want to do certain things before they get into a serious relationship or have kids or change jobs. Have you ever made a page about the things you want to do?

Happy birthday to your grandma!
Instead of before my next bday, I'm going to say what I want by the time I'm 40, which is still a few years away... gives me time to accomplish what I want. :)
By the time I'm 40, I'd like to either have finished our basement (create an in-law suite and play room/media room cuz I'm pretty sure one or both of my parents will live with me "when the time comes") or have closed off our open (2-story) family room to make way for a laundry room and guest room with en suite on our second level. I don't want to take out any type of loan to finish one (or both) of those areas, so I really have to start saving.
I'd also like to have gone on a fantastic, huge vacation with my husband. Last night I asked him to look up the Canary Islands and Nice, but I'm also floating around the idea of going to the Netherlands because my ancestors are from Holland. I really don't know yet where we'll go but I'm hoping we'll visit a few different places.
On a financial level, I'd like to have saved money for college for the kids, as well as have found a job for myself.

Frankly, once I get a job I want to take my paychecks and divide them into unequal fourths, for "House," "vacation," "college savings," and the ever-boring "retirement." :)

We celebrated my GM 93rd birthday this week. And although she is physically remarkably healthy, she is sliding deeper into dementia, which is heart-breaking.

As far as this year, I actually have big plans, hehe... but don't we always :)

I'm starting a side internet project & have inspired my husband to do the same... so I have to set that up as well (I should totally charge him, hehe). Getting more organized is a perpetual goal. Doing more in less time basically. I am a master at wasting time :giggle

My birthday's this Thursday, so my goals are simple. I'd like to touch up my roots before then. I'd also like to straighten up my bedroom a bit. I'll be 40 next year & want to do something fun. I'm leaning towards Universal Studios Hollywood. Harry Potter just opened & I love Harry Potter. I'm on course to finish my degree next year too. Finally. The big graduation may not be until I'm 41 though. We'll see.

Wow! Your grandmother is amazing! I hope I'm still in as good a shape at that age!

My 60th birthday is just a week away so not much time to accomplish anything major either (although we recently finished our basement reno, I just need a new couch for there now). We're going away for a few days to parts unknown to me!! DH has it all planned!

and, of course, you forgot to say when you do the trip, you will touch base in London and come stay with us!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to your Grandma!!!!!
My dad is almost 90, well, he will be 89 this year in August, doesn't move much, as a matter of fact he rarely leaves the house....but he was a scientist and was always an indoor person...now, on the other hand...he got himself a laptop a few years ago I think he was 80 then, and learned how to use it. He even has a Facebook account!!!!!!!!!

As far as my list.... , it would be things I want to do, see before I end my life in this earth....it is quiet long, mostly places to see, travel...
but, to be honest, without getting into the depressing side of my health affecting my life, my current prayer is to wake up the following day and be fine.
I really really want to see Sarita through Uni (she will start in October) and would love to be able to see her getting married and having children.... of course, if we get into the dream list, I would love to be there when she gets her Olivier/Tony/Golden Globe/ Bafta/ Oscar and all the performing arts awards you can think of..... that will also mean one of my dearest dreams, to have a house with a swimming pool in a hot country would also be full filled as she has promised :rofl
Would love to go to Venice in the Orient Express
do a coast to coast trip in the USA (stopping at everyone of you's places to give you a super hugg)
have a house that is mine and the money to decorate the way I want .....

and more down to earth?

to have health enough to be able to organize and make The Pad's European meet up!!!!!!!
:love

Well that goes without saying! :giggle It doesn't hurt that London is one of my fave cities. And as I'm only an hour or two away from some big US cities, it wouldn't be tough to get together if you came this way! :circles

i looking at being 60 soon.

I would like to stop blocking what ever it is , and live. I miss out on so much, being as i am now

This would be a good topic for you to talk about with someone. But the best way of getting there is set small goals and with each achievement it will begin to build up. Talking with someone who really knows you and the limitations you have would be helpful in giving you ideas. And I'd scrap each achievement even if it's something you don't share in the gallery. Keep them in a special folder so you can look at them easily on days when you need that extra confidence.

I did this a year or two ago but it was such a short time frame that it was too much and well the last couple years have been quite crazy. So now I have almost 5 years until I'm 60. I think I'll go back to that layout and try it again with a more reasonable time frame and without some things being dependent on other people. And print it so it's in a place I can be reminded.

I said I was going to learn how to knit before I turn 50. I have about a month! I will definitely scrap it if/when I do it.

Hmmm - good question.
- travel to Australia & New Zealand (our dream vacation)
- graduate my son from college (2020 or sooner)
- graduate my daughter from high school (2019)
- take the kids (who are not really kids anymore) to London
- husband retire and live with less stress due to work issues (2 to 5 years)
- spend my retirement money with a retired husband
- travel to Yellowstone and other national parks
- sit on the porch and do nothing and not feel guilty about it

Knitting is soooo good. See if there are any yarn stores close to you. Often they will have beginner classes.

I just turned 36 last month. Before I turn 37, I want to retire from my full-time software job and go full-time with my own side business that has grown to be a full-time job of its own.

On one hand, that's scary because I'm well-compensated at my office job (actually just got a promotion and a salary increase yesterday), and its about as stable as jobs get right now. On the other hand, it shouldn't be scary because Darren graduates from medical school in two years, so even if my business goes entirely away in that time, we'll be fine (we have savings and no debt, so we'd be okay in the intervening time).

I just have to get un-scared between now and 37. That, or the feeling of being tired of having no time to do the things that I want to do will overtake the feeling of being scared to make that big of a change.

Oh, and I actually did make a layout about it during MOC4!
