If I were going to get a cutting tool....

I have a portrait & find that I have never wished for the larger size! :) I've cut vinyl, fabric & paper- it works wonderfully with sticker paper for planners, labels, etc! Like previous poster- amazon often has the best deals including the additional software- which is the one thing I think you'd want as an extra. Hth!
I've never wanted the larger size either.

That's awesome! :yesss I've heard a lot of people want the bigger one, which is the only reason I suggested it. @gonewiththewind being the most recent :whistle

Thank you thank you thank you for the input!!! I just ordered a Silhouette Portrait on sale @ Amazon. Thanks to Prime, I should have it sometime this week to play with! :yesss Hopefully I'm not a total idiot, and I can figure this out!

Yeah! Welcome to the cutting side! And if you have problems so many of us here at the Pad have one, and will help where we can!

@bestcee Courtney, THANK YOU for suggesting the larger size also... I am hoping that the portrait will be sufficient for me. I'm not really a super big crafter, so I don't see myself ever wanting to make a paper box :giggle or something else that requires extra size. I really just want to be able to make stickers and labels and stencils for art projects and whatever.
And I may very well take you up on the offer to help if I can't figure it out! :)

I have the larger Silhouette Cameo, and I rarely need the extra size. You should be just fine with the Portrait, @RebeccaH! And if you ever do want to make a box, etc., there are patterns that can be cut out twice and then assembled together to make the final, larger project. I CT for a stamp/die company that does that with wafer-thin dies to make candy boxes, tote bags, milk cartons, and other larger projects without requiring a huge die.

The Brother Scan 'N Cut is by far the best one to get!!! I've used them all and my Scan 'N Cut can do the most. I cut fabric for appliques, vinyl for monograms and stickers, heat transfer material for shirts and stuff, and create stencils. I think the Silhouette is great but there is much more room for creativity with the Scan 'N Cut.

Plus there is a new software coming out that is going to be made for cutting machines, but specifically for the Scan 'N Cut. With my graphic design background, I would definitely recommend the SNC.

I have no experience with the SNC, but the Silhouette can do everything you listed. What is it that makes it different?

I'm curious too @knhoward ? I don't know anything about that machine.

I have a Silhouette portrait and have been very happy with it and the projects I've thrown at it. :) I hope you love yours Rebecca!

The easy to use system. I've talked to several dual owners...of both Silhouette and Scan 'N Cut...and they prefer the Scan 'N Cut. If you are planning on only cutting paper, use the Silhouette, but with the scanning feature you can cut multiple different patterns on different papers. I think it works better if you are planning on cutting fabric for applique or quilting. The cut is cleaner, the designs transfer over better.

It's obviously my personal opinion with continued use, but I just prefer it. I think it has the capability to do more, than just being a "crafting" machine, especially with the new software coming from the Floriani group that supports Scan 'N Cut.

I've actually been using my Portrait pretty regularly these days, and so far, it's fitting all my needs. Although I wouldn't turn down a Cameo if someone gave it to me. LOL

I have had my Silhouette Cameo for almost 3 years. It sits right next to my computer desk and gets used quite often!!! I love it!
