My son's new favorite phrase is "I'm bored." It doesn't seem to matter what is going on, or what toys are available, he's bored.
Me - I carry my Kindle with me a lot so I don't get bored waiting. Or play a casual app on my phone.

Are you ever 'bored'? What do you do to combat it?

I'm easily bored. I'm the same as you though, I have a ton of books on my phone and play angry birds or my fashion game.

Both my kids say they are bored all the time, they are 4 and 9. It drives me nuts as we have a house full of games, crafts, toys, activities and over an acre of land for them to play in. Grrrrrr.

Never! There's more I'd like to do than I have time to do it. I can't remember what it's like to be bored. And I'm generally an empathetic parent but when one particular daughter of mine says she's bored (the only of my three kids who sometimes says this), I have little sympathy. I suggest a few ideas but otherwise don't engage in a discussion about it.

I read somewhere once that having too much stuff can be overwhelming, leading to indecision, leading to boredom.

@michelepixels funny, I read that too. I've downsized a lot, in secret cause if the kids are around EVERYTHING is special and can't be gotten rid of. We mostly have games and activities like puzzles, bunch 'ems, tons of art and craft supplies, playdough etc...

My son got a science kit, hydrolab kit and an electronic kit for christmas and hasn't even opened the boxes. Sigh. I told him we could start growing some flowers or veggies in the hydro lab to be planted outside in the spring and he likes the idea but refuses to actually do it. Yet he is bored.

THIS! Exactly! He had a room fun of toys, Legos, Playdoh, and is never 'bored' when I want him to do something. Sigh.

I've heard that too about overwhelm leading to boredom. I keep thinking about going through his room, but he plays with it all. Maybe I should try the rotation thing?

@bestcee HAHA! I know! I ask him to unload the dishwasher or do his laundry, take out the garbage or pick up dog poop (his jobs for his allowance) and he is always busy at those times. Makes me crazy!

He also loves minecraft on the computer / ipad. He plays with a friend of his online. But I severley limit his screen time so he is super bored when he isn't allowed to do what he wants.

I am never bored, and I am thankful for that. I have so many things that I am 'into' :)

I can't even imagine what bored feels like LOL I am never bored at all...there is always something that needs to be done or that I can get in to. My 10 year old seldom tells me he's bored anymore because he knows that when he does, I start making a list of chores :)

I used to try to "take advantage" of their boredom and offer them a list of jobs that needed to be done. Sometimes they suddenly found something to do on their own.

I can get bored.....at work if its quiet, but never at home do I get bored.

My kids have no reason to be bored - they have an "I'm bored" jar thats filled with hundreds of things for them to do

I am never bored.
Nikolai does sometimes but usually it is when he has been inside to long. We live on court with no kids that play outside (there kids on the court but I have only seen them getting and out of the car never out playing) and no park close by so when he gets bored it is get in the car and go to the park time.

I was bored today... haha. I suppose it's more like... unmotivated to do a single darn thing. I did finally pick up my book and read, though.

those words do not come out of my kids mouths...they learned..but they do the nostril breath...and flop into a chair. I go, oh someone looks like they need a task from mom, are those weeds still in the rocks...superheros don't go invisible as fast as they do....bhhhahha

Yep it was the same in my house as Anne and Karen you say those words I will give you a job to do.

Yep... I'm like Anne. When my kids say they are bored... they get chores until they figure it out and disappear and decide to entertain themselves.

This was how it was for me growing up, too!

Now I wish I had the time to be bored, but honestly there is just so much to do! And, yes, some of it is boring, especially the work parts, but I try to find ways to liven those up, like by listening to a podcast or audiobook while I clean the house.
