I like the oak looking one best, but the black flat paint comes with more. Not so much like the cardboard one.
I think on it a few days, i am trying to go ONE day without buying something.

 

Amazing! How'd you do that. Come on Diane spill. I've done one with a pre-made shadow box, but this boggles the mind.

 

Grumbling at the girls above. But hopefully this means we'll get some sort of tutorial or step by step improving our work.

 

Don't forget Dalis almost implied that there may be shadow boxes on Wednesday at SOSN so don't buy early!!!

 

Just remember some of us gals aren't as far along in the knowledge of photoshop, etc. PLEASE! (and some of us are still on Day 31).

 

I made a new document, 12 x 12. Then I brought in the cityscape paper, reduced it to the size you see. I gave the paper a deep inner shadow.

Next I use the pen tool to draw some trapezoid shapes for the top, bottom, sides to turn into masks for the various papers.

Once I had papers clipped to the shapes, I made a new layer above each shape mask/paper and used the brush tool to paint on some extra shadows (using a soft round brush, color 2c1901) along the seam edges (the edges where the trapezoids meet) and edges near the cityscape paper. I adjusted the opacity of the painted shadows until I liked how they looked. This was the step that really made it look more like a box. I added layers and more brushed shadows for additional depth.

I used shadows on their own layers and manipulated them for the boy and girl shadows. I did all this with PSE 11 (I'm sure it's much easier with PS).

 

Ha Ha Ha! Sorry gals if you didn't want to do more than one. I am so much in the grove of MOC I couldn't help but get on this one quick. Plus, it was something I have seen others do and I wanted to give it a try.

Thank you for the directions. I'm sure it will make more sense in the morning. I have paintshop however, but at least I have a starting point. Thank you. It looks like so much fun.

YAY - It has been a while since I did one - lets see if I can find my goodies (i have WAy too many - said no artist ever!)

 

Maybe we can bribe her for a template at least.
My interpretation is make a square for the background. Draw from corner to corner to make a trapezoid (like a rectangle only the one end is narrower than the other.

It works really well with a solid color, or if you clip a paper just to the very back (not the beveled parts). I think it looks more realistic than the inner shadow. I made my sides have a pattern, which takes more work, but it was fun. Can't post till tomorrow, though
