So brand name items. Are you for or against? Are there certain things where you'd never buy the store brand? Or do you not care about brands and are all about saving $$?

For us, there are things like laundry detergent, one particular brand of corn bread mix, and mayonnaise where we always buy the brand name (and watch for sales like crazy), but then other things, like frozen garlic bread or garbage bags where we'll totally opt for the store brand.

What about you?

I'm the same, certain things I will only buy brand name and other things I will buy store brand or no name.

Laundry, dishwasher and mayonnaise here as well :)

Food wise, it depends on the ingredients. We go store brand for almost everything, unless there are my daughter's food allergens present. Sometimes the name brands are different.

Toilet paper - name brand all the way. Lol

Clothes wise, I don't typically care about name brand, but if I see Old Navy jeans in my size at goodwill, I snatch them right up. For the kids, I only look at brands because of sizing. ... walmart/faded glory brand size 3t is different than jumping bean/Kohls size 3t.

Same with shoes.

Most stuff, I'll get whatever cheapest, but sometimes one or more of us can tell a difference in a bad way and we won't do that again. DH is attached to his brand of ketchup, and there's a favorite brand of frozen meatballs, but most stuff isn't a big change.

Brand name q-tips are one of my biggest necessities, can't take the generic kinds. Not brand specific with detergent or trashbags. Will use whatever really nice tp has a better price but I'm not giving up on the really nice soft stuff. Prefer Downy for fabric softener. I'm lucky that our main grocery chain in Florida called Publix carries really nice store brands on food and most other stuff, too.

Oh yes, toilet paper, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce are ones I am stuck on as well.

I don't know of much that I have to have Brand Names for but there are a couple that come to mind. Diet Coke (NO GENERIC SODA. BLECH.) Cream Cheese (gotta be Philadelphia). And soap (Dove).

i think i am a brand name snob ... bc as i read through the responses so far ... i'm all like, yup, oh yes!, mmm hmm.
mayo may be the #1 have to have "my brand" item, most paper products (tissues, tp and paper towels), q tips, cream cheese ... all need to be my brand too. most things in my home are brand name.

there deftly are things that the generic will do though. i love all kinds of fancy yogurt brands but if there are no sales i will snatch up those generic greek yogurts. some canned items i don't care about the brand either.

I'm kind of a mix, but find I usually buy brand name just because of the way we eat...although they aren't the typical Kraft, Heinz, etc. I don't buy processed foods for the most part, and if I do it's usually an organic or non-gmo product. I make my own laundry detergent, my own salad dressings, and I recently found a recipe for home made mayo I want to try out! But as for toilet paper, paper towels and trash bags I have certain brands I buy for those.

I'm a mix. I buy brand name soda (Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi!!!), bar soap (Lever), Mayo (Hellmann's), and ibuprofen (Advil). I think there are more, but nothing is coming to mind. I used to be brand specific to a TP and Paper towel... but I found some from my local store - Stop & Shop - that are better than the old brand I was using... and we have also moved to real towels so we use less paper towels.

Oh yeah, the mayo has to be Best Foods (Hellman's). For years I only bought Charmin toilet paper & Sparkle paper towels, but the budget's just too tight these days. So, it's whatever the best deal is at Grocery Outlet. I'm pretty happy with all the Target brand stuff & I love getting extra savings with the Target app. My 7 year old cracked me up recently. I had gotten him some shoes at Old Navy and he said "Oh, I wish they were the Joe Boxer (Kmart) brand".

I personally want only Hanes socks and Lane Bryant Cacique bras (tmi?).

It's funny, I do pay more for the cat food. I cut grain out of her diet. So, she eats Fancy Feast wet food & I order Natural Instinct dry food from Amazon.

It's definitely worth it for the cat food. It'll probably save you in the long run using less litter and less cleaning stuff, since the poop and shed less on a good diet. We don't have cats anymore but that is one thing I never compromised on. Cheap human food isn't nearly as awful as cheap cat food.

Toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher soap, mayonnaise, ketchup, laundry soap, Qtips- yes. Clothes, shoes, almost never, but I have a thing against vinyl so always have a leather wallet or purse. It's hard to find a good leather purse that isn't either hand made or a brand name.

Me, gosh so me. Everyone in the house has favorites, so it's easier to get what they like then buy others they don't/won't lik then throw away. I do fine tune stuff that doesn't matter for store brands like seasonings and such.

Can I get an amen for toilet paper has to be 2-ply and some durability? I feel like the Charmin bears commercial. I practically pee all over myself anymore - Wah?!?! Old age sux

Yes! We go with the good stuff for the furbabies. They just stay healthier ♥

It was so frustrating narrowing it all down. Turns out her system just does not like grains and she loves crunchy food. It's all good now that we have the right combo.
